19.4 feels like 11 we have seen 4 below up here in years past this just feels colder to me getting old I guess. Today will attempt to get out see how that goes.

Prayers for all our Country California wild fires
Take your time and be careful, Buppies.

the pictures coming in from California are awful
over a thousand buildings burned down, homes, schools, whole communities burned
there is even a fire on the hill where the Hollywood sign is.

this has happened too often in California.
they really need a different approach
no wonder the insurance companies are leaving, if they see the same catastrophes repeating
year after year.
I don't know if it is zoning or building codes but they need to reduce the fire load near structures or simply prohibit
more structures being built.
for sure not everyone is as careful as RNG was.

now would be a good time for a storm system to dump several inches of rain on California.
one can hope...

and btw, we are ALL paying for this. Just like we pay for flood insurance for beachfront properties.
The government subsidizes many of these insurance programs and who pays for the government?...

I cannot imagine living in that state due to the hazards.
but then I would not live in Kansas or Oklahoma or South Florida either.
but if you grew up there, it's what you know

very windy out, constant roaring sounds coming from the woods behind my home, trees waving back and forth
wondering when the next ash tree is going to fall on the power lines

Morning all, 20 going up to 34 and still windy.
Hard to be outside for too long, even walking the dog up the driveway is painful.

We know people who have been evacuated in California, so it's not only the rich being impacted, though you would think so if you watch the news.

CEO sent out a letter for all to be at work 4 days/week.
For me thats 5 hours round trip, $800/month and possibly a car to commute to train. Bit stressed.

When I worked in Cali, I saw a builder develop a whole mess of town houses in a dry riverbed area. A few years later I watched on TV as those homes flowed down down the street after a heavy rain. Developers have it made there and seem to bypass all rules and regulations easily.
I bet a lot of the houses on the palisades don't even have fire insurance as the ins companies probably would not cover them. People want to build in areas that are not good for housing.
The people who suffer are the ones who have smaller houses, businesses etc. Many are probably under-insured due to costs.
What a mess, again...

Be well,

67°F and .39 inches much needed rain

Hard to comprehend the fires in LA.

Jaw and tooth much much better this morning. Jaw pain was especially tenacious. Wimp

Off to Hilo town this morning again. Tundra gets the Leer topper installed. 2-3 hours.

H& F at our house this afternoon. Doubtful I’ll be able to mow before given the wetness.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Good Morning!!!! 42F @ 7:50AM. Sunny. High 71F. Winds WNW at 5 to 10 mph.

Deepest condolances, NHBX.

Safest wishes to those weathering the storms.

Feels a bit strange having a truck payment again. I know a number of advisors tout payments like mortgages, but have to admit when everything was paid off it was comforting.
I feel the same way about the payment on the solar power system on the new house. But with only a 2.5% interest rate, the money to pay it off would do better in Treasury Bills. I might not even outlive the loan anyway!

Yet another plague of wildfire, this time in southern California. There's been a fair amount of rain in the northern part of the state, but this winter SoCal has been starved for rain, leaving the area just begging for a spark. Everybody wants to blame global warming, because that helps keep those that made the bad decisions that led to these trageties from being held accountable. Fifty years ago the Forest Service and logging companies were able to keep fuel accumulations on the forest floor to a minimum, but that cost money and stopping the controled burning and logging didn't seem to cause a problem for a while. And it kept the greenies happy. The problem now is that the wildlands are full of fuel, and strong northerly winds common in these months will quickly fan a stray spark from a lawnmower, chainsaw, bulldozer blade, carelessly discarded cigarette, or dragging trailer chain into a raging inferno. Those same winds spot embers a mile or more ahead of the fire head, and they don't care if they land in wild land or in the cities and suburbs where people have never practiced fire safe building or landscaping techniques. They never needed to because the forests were maintained and the fires that did start had far less fuel available to help them spread.

Early yesterday morning my best buddy down here texted to say they wasn't feeling well, so off we went to the hospital. The doctors found an aortal aneurism and scheduled a stent installation operation for this morning. The prognosis is good, and we hope to be home for the weekend. I'm sitting in a waiting room now, waiting on news. Until then, fingers crossed.
