I think that's a modern management "feel good" term.
I agree it sounds fake and hollow. I think something more specific and deserved would be better received.... Like "I appreciate how you handled that problem".
It's short for I appreciate 'whatever you are doing'. I have heard this from my southern clients for many years. It was only in the south but has spread in popularity.

A peeve is a restaurant, nice meal, then next booth or table over people start talking medical talk. "Marge had bloody diarrea. That's when they found colon cancer had spread all over".

Bro ~ Don't even go there Bro ... If I ever say Bro, slap me
Also not "kids today"! Jeff Spicoli would be roughly 65 years old, today. :D

I’m very South and we say “appreciate it”. As in thank you.

Ok new one unsure of it's posted but it's finally got to me what
over the years happened that apparently a large majority of drivers stopped using there turn signals? I'm not just talking about changing lanes but making actual right or left turns. I'm frustratingly perplexed especially during winter driving. Wonder if some drivers think turn signals turn themselves on automatically Like every other fancy doodad cars have these days.

Just lazy and mostly uncourteous. It's shows a lack of respect for the other guy. I use mine most every time even lane changes are safer with the tap once for 3 blinks features in most cars and trucks.
My favorite in car complaint is 'What, you paid 50k for a car with no blinkers !???' 😤

You expect drivers to endure the hardship of manually activating turn signals?!?

They're used to not having to deal with turning on headlights or wipers as needed. Besides, it's probably hard to text and activate the blinkers.

Most drivers in my area are to lazy to clean their car off of snow. Even so lazy that they can't hit the redefrost button.

I'm actually a fan of auto headlights especially with the way new dashboards are illuminated, and daytime running lights on all the time, Funny story to me anyway I told somewhere about a loaner car, ex-wife, nighttime drive 300 miles up north by her and no clue why other cars as a courtesy, were flashing her on the road.
