Most of them will charge a certain % of what the estate is.
Never a good thing to do, specifically the price of houses today vs 5 years ago

maybe off topic , my mom passed away a year ago , she had some land and a house all in a trust , i have two siblings the will said divide everything equally , went to settle everything yesterday at the law office , bill was $12,500 seems high but i dont know its done i guess

If your Mom selected the attorney your are stuck with him/her IMHO. Lawyers charge $400/hr and in the big city $1000 or more.
!2K sounds like to much to distribute per the trust.
I would get another r legal Opinion rather that roll over

Lawyers vary. We went though two with my Dad’s estate. The first one was (as we were slow to realize) learning as she went and padding the bill (my wife managed a small law office for eleven years, and knows billing). The next was scrupulously honest, did lots of good work, cost us about $1,800 despite the fact we tried to give him more. Never be afraid to investigate an attorney.

My GF's dad passed away last June. He had cancer and told her before he passed away that he was leaving her and her twin boys a very large inheritance and that he had a will and she was included in it. He was a very well-off man who was married to an extremely controlling and narcissistic woman who kept my GF (his only child) out of their family so the focus would be on her and her adult children. Her dad lived out of state and had named his step daughter as the executor of the will. Since his death, the twins received a very large life insurance settlement but my GF has never heard a single word about the reading of his will, and she’s too nice to ask her step-sister about the will. Is it possible that it’s just taking this long for the will to be read? I know he most likely had a complicated will as he owned lots of properties. I keep telling her to just nicely ask the step-sister but she doesn’t want to. She said she has read that it can take many months or even years for a will to be finished. I just find it odd that the step-sister has never told her a single thing about the will or her being apart of it. Her dad lived in Michigan.

Generally, anyone in a will should be notified by the attorney before the first court date in which the judge officially approves the personal representative or executor of a will. After that the personal representative is bound by law to disperse the estate as stated by the will. A follow up court date is needed for final dispersement to close the estate.

too late now ,all done but i know not to hire them again

a person I know personally was an executor of his mother's estate and he mishandled it, it was to split everthing with his sister- he spent 18 months in prison

California law specifies probate fees earned by the attorney and the executor for a Will. We used these rates as the basis for reasonable fees to close Mom's Trust.

Dad passed. Trust atty demanded $6,000 before Trustee (Sister) left the office. Intimidated, She paid

Few years later Mom passed - Sister-Trustee distributed all assets equally. Then, with no assets left in Trust and Trust account balance at $200. I asked my CPA to close the Trust. He did for $200 and filed all appropriate tax forms.

Many state set a limit on what can be charge. Normally a percentage of the estate on a sliding scale

she just went on a cruise , must be nice to rip people off and enjoy it oh well life goes on
