Good Morning from Central Texas.
At 5am, 66 degrees with same Dew Point. An unusual stretch of warm weather the last week. Wouldn't mind if we had a cold front, just not too cold!
OPINION / Question: Didn't know where to post this, so doing it here. Has anyone "made safe" / "cut into" a propane bottle. I am speaking of the 14 ounce ones like:

Now I know, NOT TO just take a grinder with a cut-off wheel to it ! What I am asking is "has anyone done this". I watched some U-tube videos where they say to block open the valve, fill with water and let that sit a week or two - claiming the gas needs to leach out of the metal ? Sounds safe, but I'd really like to hear from someone who has actually cut / drilled these before I attempt it.
I use these all the time and have accumulated a bunch of them. The local metal recycle places will NOT take them without being cut up / hole drilled in them. Thanks in advance.
Headed to Dallas. Hope all have a better day than I will. ;)

Good morning, the low is 9 and going to a high of 28°F. Wind ENE 8 mph. Snow about 2". Another 3/4" tonight. Probably plow on Friday.

Nothing planned other than plowing.

I have found it is better to have it snow first and then the freezing rain on top.

Have a safe day all

enjoyed breakfast and hot shower, looked out and what a mess out there, half sleet and half ice pellets, everything white again
in a shiny glaze. Nope, not going out in that...
going to wait until it warms up, precip stopping around noon.

Phil, congrats for being on the cover. Your work is deserving of a lot of covers.

34 outside right now, rain, sleet mixture coming down.

Getting the wood stove going again.

Looks like we need a new heat pump in the other house. That's going to have to wait for a little while.

Should be a quiet day, need to do some shopping and a dump run. Not too excited about going out in the rain though...might melt.

Hope all have a great day. Be safe.

as nasty as it was outside, figured they would call off school, and they have.
and used a lot of fancy words to do so.
at least they get homework.
shows you how important it is today for connectivity

Buppies, weather ain't so hot here either

sent this article to my sister in California, reminding her to have a bug out plan
if Muir Woods catches on fire. Pretty sure she can go straight to kids, but if earthquake, her alpine style
access road may be down on the beach. So she will have to hoof it out.
I made sure I put a med kit in the volvo for her. And a fire extinguisher and flash light. There's room in the storage spot
in the back for one more thing, maybe big bottle of water. One of those emergency foil blankets are in the med kit.
but around here, everyone needs a blanket or something extra in their car during the winter.
sitting by the side of the road steadily getting colder reminded me of that recently.
I bet Don and Scott and others with Fire/EMS experience are stocked up.
you always want to be able to respond, and help, so you need the basics.
and for sure you want your wife and family to have what they need if your luck runs out.

40 years ago I took a clean car towel out of my car and used it to stop the bleeding on the driver whose forehead was laid open
and his door jammed, waiting for rescue squad to extricate. I was second on scene when we could drive our own cars to the incident.
pretty sure today everyone has to go to the firehouse first, except maybe not fire police.
I was glad I had a clean towel, maybe not antiseptic but good enough. I know that guy was grateful to get the blood out of his eyes.
I did not ask for the towel back.

I have a good LL bean canvas bag that would make a good bugout bag. It has a top zipper also.
no fire or earthquake danger in this area, always local and minimal not burning down huge areas.
But my sister chooses to live on the side of a cliff near a giant California forest.
with my risk management background, it will forever worry me.

The weather is crazy this time of the year for us. Seems like just last week we were below freezing. Today and tomorrow looks like we'll be pushing up against record highs.
