Ah yes, Atari combat.

I pulled out the old 1979 Atari 2600 around Christmas, got a new adapter that works better than the old antenna/game switch, some new joysticks, and set it up on the 45" flat screen in the basement rec room. My 15 year old son loves it, most notably Pong, Combat, Pitfall and Space Invaders. He has less interest in Pac Man and Astroids.

We must have about 40 games, but a lot of them are just stupid regurgiations of others, with slightly different graphics, which was a big problem for Atari game makers back then.

It was fun to play Space Invaders and Pac Man again. I never really was great at Pitfall.

Pong was the first and last video game I played. Wasn't there two speeds to it?
I googled Pong and there was no code to it, it was a hardware based game. Interesting, but understandable for the time.

It's possible there were multiple versions/improvements over the years.

The way I remember it, there were two different levels for difficulty, which just controlled the size of your on-screen "paddle". So if a better player was playing against a weaker player, you could set the better player's paddle size to small, and the weaker player's paddle size to large.

You could not control speed, but in some versions of the game, the speed would increase with each round.

YKYO when someone says "Where's the beef" and you know what they are talking about.

I also remember the Burma Shave signs on the side of the highway.
Do you remember the commercial where she found it? In a jar of Prego spaghetti sauce...

When I had back surgery last month, they gave me a 2' shoe horn. It works great!

Google 24" shoe horn. There are quite a few listed. I highly recommend it.

Works better when standing up with one hand on the wall than it does sitting down. Just a tip I've learned over the weeks.
When they sent me home from surgery that day they gave me one of those long shoehorns (among other stuff like the sock thing )

Its great! (y)
