DR Brush mower carb setup

I have a DR Brushmower that runs at a slow idle when fully choked, dies when I move to run. It’s a 15hp Kawasaki engine. If I fiddle with the throttle at the carb, I can get it to run at speed. There seems to be some feedback that is shutting down the engine.

Does anyone have a shop manual with the carb details. It’s a mikuni carb. The mower is a 2001 or so. I have an operating manual. It has no carb details.

I suspect a spring or control rod came loose. I don’t know these well enough to figure it out.

I have a manual that describes the carb adjustments for a Kawasaki FH451V 15hp engine if that's what your engine is. My engine may be a little newer though... around 2002-2003.
It's a very basic one page thing for what they call "associated choke" or "separate choke".

You might try Sea Foam. Mix about 50/50 with gasoline and run the engine for a few minutes to be sure the mix has worked into the carb. Shut it off and leave it sit overnight or even another day. Now see how it performs. This can clean out some tiny passages in the carb. I've had good luck with it.

I do this seasonally on almost all of my small gas engines. I also occasionally spray seafoam in the intake until it stalls, let it sit for 10 minutes, then fire it back up.

Sometimes replacement carbs are inexpensive on amazon if ethanol gas has wrecked the carb
