60°F and foggy this morning, got up to 65° today. Had some light rain on and off through the day, but calm other than that.
Eating dinner last night, and I noticed out the living room window that it looked like there was smoke blowing through the trees across the road. We got up and looked, and sure enough there was smoke blowing from over by the Sportsmen's Club toward our neighbor's house across the road. When we opened the door, we heard sirens coming towards us. Turned out to be a grass fire around the lake. This happened just about 30 minutes after another grass fire closer to town. 40mph winds were probably carrying embers and started another fire. A little too close for comfort.
The local media had been peppering us for days with reports of dire weather coming our way Friday night. This time they happened to be right. The heavy stuff hit us about 10:30. Wife and I were already in the basement in our recliners when it hit. High winds, sideways rain, lots of lightning, and hail. Broke one window on the front of the garage, and dead-limbed several trees for us. Some of our friends around the area weren't so fortunate, and many have serious property damage. We've been finding out through the course of the day today that a tornado touched just south of town and did a lot of damage. The city just got their power back on within the last hour. Last I read, there were 12 dead just over in Missouri alone, and many more further south. Tough storm.
Removed the broken window this morning. Need to get new glass in it. Boarded up for now. The wind opened the storm door on the well house and popped out one window on it. It didn't break, amazingly, so that was an easy fix. Picked up all the limbs across the driveway. Barn door held steady this time. Could have been worse.
Happy (belated) Birthday, Drew.
Good evening, gents.
