Hey, I used to repair those parts that hold the red and yellow spool on the machines back in the day. Did thousands and thousands of those things for the local rope and baling twine factory.
The base was made of plastic that was molded around the shaft where the spool slides over. Over time, those plastic bases broke. So I made the base out of steel instead and welded the shaft to it. Lasted much much longer. Eventually, it started breaking the shaft but that was due to overloading the spools.
