I've read existing customers are trading for anything but a Tesla.

I don't know the extent, but an EV subforum over on Reddit has a lot of proud posters who traded in a Y for an Ioniq 5. Which is now US-built.

They say size and performance are similar, much smoother ride and better interior, while the dash software isn't as sophisticated or responsive as what they traded in - but having some buttons in place of everything touch-screen is nice. And they now have access to Tesla's 400 volt chargers which makes long range travel easier. On an 800 volt charger the Ioniq can charge much faster.

We're seeing a transition, Tesla is no longer the only reasonable EV.

And, to be fair, much of their base was blue haired libs... Who are now convinced Elon is a ****. So, they are dumping the cars.

It was never about the car. It was about the virtue. Now, the virtue is to dump the car brand, so here we go.

Or at least they are saying they had a Tesla and have sold it. Lets see the bill of sales. Reddit is a virtual reality, posters live in their a reality of their own making.

For some. You are mistaken to generalize to the whole population.

Clearly I'm referring to the people dumping the cars

Now is the time to buy any vehicle if you need one. So run out and get you one. Once the tariffs go in place, the inflationary effects will make all new and used vehicles go up considerably. Its only a matter of time.
Tariffs are not going to amount to much for the USA. We don't really need foreign automobiles, our existing supply is plenty for several years before enough vehicles need replacement. No country offers anything unique enough that we would have to "do without" with local sources.

We have a significant problem with intellectual property theft by China.

Clearly we are seeing the transition from ICE to EV world wide as envisioned and made possible by Elon Musk over the years. Musk favors transportation powered by renewable energy and he is counting on non Tesla EVs to make up the vast majority of the EV fleet.

Well, we know our media has never exaggerated a small number of outliers, pretending it's a sea change.

It'd be interesting to see the numbers.

I agree virtue is a big factor on both sides of the equation, but also know that very few can actually afford to put their money where their heart is, when it comes to changing vehicles on a whim. I call BS on this notion that there are masses of Tesla owners, who previously had no plans to trade in their car, suddenly lining up to dump them solely out of frustration with Musk.
