Here is a few photos of a cabin on 80 acres SW of us 20 miles. Its a fairly recent and partial construction built on 4x4 posts and cement blocks. As seen in the pics, we found the door open and the latch wouldn't work from I'd guess, building sag. Did strap it shut on our way out. Property was rough and not practical for xc trail construction. Oh well.

It surprises me that they put so much money and effort into building a shack that is deteriorating before it's done being built. I'm guessing they just didn't know any better, but it could also be that they just cut too many corners.

One time while listening to a guy from Ford talking about their cars and their competition, he said that it costs the same to build an ugly car as it does a good looking one. It's one of those things that has stuck with me when I'm building something.

We are friends with a couple who ordered a "kit" home. After five years, they still do not have a Certificate of Occupancy. People can get fooled and think building something it is simpler than it really is.

The UP of Michigan is definitely not for everyone so I understand a lot of properties being bought and then sold in a few years when reality sets in.

I live in a remote area of northern MI and I have been in my home for 12 years. No one has lasted that long; and no one thought I would last more than a couple of years.

Becoming part of the community helps a lot.

We have seen newer purchases go back up FS a few years later but most have been 20 or 30 years with the same owners. Seems they have become elderly and wanted to get out of it. The one we bid on was that way.

Seen a 75 acre partial with junk today. Lots of it. I did not get photos of all the junk cars seen out there, owner said he'd pick them up. Was at least 4 atv's as well. Was enough snow left we guessed that we only seen a percent of it. Road out was under water, etc, etc. Aside the junk, property was of limited interest at best.

Those are treasures! They're dreams and hopes of it's future value.

Lots of that in rural PA. Wealth and security is based on the cars and junk collected in the yard.

I can't quite understand that view...

All that stuff is easily disposed of, and the road drainage can also be fixed. But even without that stuff it sounds like you still didn't like the property?

Why we only have limited interest follows.. The property was pretty flat n swampy. Snow was pretty low there due to its location to the lake. The drive in needed to be raised and we guessed they hadn't put a mat down before the rock was dumped in to build it.

Garbage everywhere.. Some friends of ours purchased a house that was filled with "good buys" from the basement to the attic. Yes, he was a hoarder with $$... We had also looked at the house and subtracted 30K from the price, for garbage removal. He of course told these buyers "I'll be back to get my stuff" months later he returned with a semi truck and trailer to get it. They couldn't do much of anything to the house with all his "good stuff" in the way and when he did come back, should have brought more than that one 50ft trailer. They had to dispose of the remainder. Maybe hey should have subtracted the $$ for garbage removal?

That old truck looked interesting to me anyway what was it an old international or Dodge? Property I bought up there awhile back had scrap piles of junk in the woods, for awhile I occasionally would rummage through it and salvage,/ repurpose a few pieces for occasional backwoods tinkering projects. Loaded up my old one ton dump truck with junk I didn't see my self ever using got like 200+ dollars for scrap aluminum and steel. Scrap yard initially thought I was scrapping the truck itself lol.

When we bought our house it had some junk on it. It didn’t seem like much but after about the fifth truckload I hauled off I decided I should have made them clean it up.
