Massey 1528
The 3ph on my Massey 1528 compact tractor won’t stay up. Both the 3ph and the 3ph position control lever drop if the control lever is not continuously raised. It started as a slow drop taking about 2-3 minutes to drop from full height to now dropping in about 15 seconds and I constantly need to raise the control lever so I don’t bump the implement I have on the back.

Any suggestions on what to look for or how to diagnose would be appreciated.

It sounds like the problem is with the control not the three point itself. Is there something you can adjust or tighten to increase friction on the control so it doesn't flop down so freely?

Exactly what Roadworthy said.

Follow the 3 pt lever all the way down and you should see a big spring and some studs, this allows you to adjust the tension on the friction discs to hold the lever in place.

Design may vary slightly from what I said but the principle is still the same.

The only other control is the rate of drop dial under the seat. If I tighten that too much then the 3ph does not come down at all. I’ll look for other adjustments on or around the 3ph control lever

I’ll take a look. Thanks

This was exactly the problem. By tightening the nut and the jam nut I was able to control how tight the lever is and it doesn't drop any longer. Much easier fix than hydraulics. Thanks.
