What bugs/diseases/critters have ya'll seen that weren't around 30-40 years ago?

I am hearing about the jumping worms but haven't seen any.
Our earthworms and night crawlers are also considered invasive. They came over on ships from England. The native species were wiped out during the last ice age.

They say we have needle ants too, been here a while, they say. I cannot recall ever feeling one sting me, can't pick out a fire ant from a piss ant. I can tell the difference in the army carpenter ants and their red skinned cousins.

Interesting I hadn't heard before the common earthworm is a nonnative species.

What could be more innocuous than an earthworm? Plenty. Non-native earthworms are damaging healthy soil, native plants, and carbon storage.

One thing I used to see back then but don't now is bobwhite quail. Every now and again I will hear one calling. I have called em up many times. It was said that they disappeared because of the DDT poisoning, along with the raptors.

Another is rabbits this year being the exception. My dad told me of a time when there was a 6" snow he would go rabbit hunting with a stick and bop them on the head for supper. Growing up I could go months without seeing any. They have made a come back and now I got to do some thinning...

Cottontail and jackrabbits in the west have declined considerably due to a rampant hemorrhagic disease.

40 years ago, I could walk to the end of the hay field before seeing one tick which would be a normal dog tick. Today, I could get two or three or four dog ticks in my yard not to mention tiny seed ticks which I never used to see. Used to not see whitetail deer. Now common.

Stinkbugs. We didn't have any of these in my area of Oregon, 10 years ago. Now they are everywhere. And are a royal pain in the springtime. They hide in houses over winter. And when the temps get up to 75 or so, they all want out, but seem to be too stupid to find where they came in. I set a light with a water trap. This fills up every night in the spring.

In NW MO, most obvious invasives to me are Asian carp, armadillos, Japanese beetles and wild Bradford pear trees.

I forgot the stink bugs are more common and asian beetles not to mention seeing armadillos in Middle Tennessee.

Lots of bees here, along with hornets and wasps. But no shortage of honey bees and bumble bees.

The Monarch butterflies are indeed scarce, though. We have them, but not nearly so many as decades ago.
