No, I am NOT going to try to take down a dead 100' Hickory tree!

Twice in the last year I've rented a trailer-type of boom rig to remove trees for myself, my son and a friend. A boom with a 50 foot reach was less than $500 for the day, easily pulled behind a half-ton pickup and quite easy to operate.

Using a saw that's easily handled--my buddy's DeWalt electric worked very well--you would make short work of the dangerous branches and can leave the trunk for nature to take its course.

Actualy, getting bids may be worthwhile.

My neighbor at the orchard had a row of tall ancient Eucalyptus that put too much shade on the house and garden. First bid she got was $44K. After bids from other arborists her final cost was $14K.

Only a fool would take you up on that offer. Would you really want said fool running a chainsaw cutting a dangerous tree on your property?
