When I’m working the Tractor hard fluid leaks from drain plug. I realize what the problem is,( front axle propeller shaft seal)I know I’m going to split tractor to replace seal, if you done this before is there any helpful advise and/or parts that need to be replaced based on your past experience?

I would be interested in this subject as well.

My L48 is a little drippy from the same location. Not sure if my equipment and skill set is up for this project, but having a shop do this is probably out of my financial ability. Sooooo who knows.

My 4740 has gotten worse, leaks when parked. Monday I split tractor and ordered all parts. Parts including filters came to $303.00, I still need three 5 gal pails of Super UDT2, another $400+. It’s not a hard job, the most part is to support both half’s.

The L48 looks like it could be a pretty good size job. The main frame that the loader, backhoe and the ROPS/FOPS looks like a pretty involved job by itself. Probably not technically too big a deal, just many large bolts and heavy pieces of steel.

Once all that is removed, then the actual split would begin. I really don't have any idea how much a shop would charge to do it, but, it looks like an $8K job to this layman. The good part is, I have the time and probably enough equipment to do it...I dunno.

I've only recently learned about this common oil leak in the Lxx40 tractors. I'll probably jix myself, but I sure am lucky that mine doesn't leak at all, even though it's from the first year of the L5740 production. Fingers crossed...
