Florescent Lighting Bans?

What about hearing aid or flashlight batteries?
Here, we are supposed to put those in the trash, which, happily, is what I would do regardless of what the law said. Unless I could feed them directly to sea turtles.

One Oakland based company didn’t follow proper disposal rules and paid 49 million fine in addition to ongoing oversight and training/audit requirements.

Don't worry about it. I mean, health care is all free in California, right?

Company, being the operative word. Waste disposal regulations and penalties for companies are orders of magnitude more punitive than any individual will see.

Yes… a business that tosses a Florescent bulb, a battery etc. is on the hook…

A homeowner doing the same will be given a warning.

I have to admit the current regs often defy logic.

At work a felt tip marker in the trash is a violation…

At work the one drop of blood in the trash is a violation… EXCEPT feminine hygiene products of any quantity are exempt…

I’ve already had two random audits where the contents of a 6 yard dumpster is dump on a huge tarp in the parking lot and inventoried by folks in hazmat suits…

Both times no violation found although a few aluminum soda cans ended up in the trash it was not deemed a violation.

Specifically looking for anything with blood, drugs including inhalers and over the counter, Sharps, Florescent Lamps, Batteries, Patient Information, liquids of any kind other than water… etc…

Yep 49 million fine and millions annually going forward is quite a hit for a not for profit…

The fines are often calculated at max collectible without putting the entity out of business…

The oil refineries see this coming and why several are ceasing operations.

Shaking my head! Dumping trash out and going through it?

Years ago when I didn’t know better I’d put my used oil back in the quart containers and put them in the trash. One day they were sitting next to my empty trash can. I found out you weren’t suppose to do that.

And who picks it all back up?
What country is that? 😂
