How could Artificial Intelligence become dangerous?

We need ai to keep tbe politics out of what was once a good discussion.
Not a bad idea, but there’s a few who agree with you that keep bringing up the legalizing of illegal immigration, which is political. Maybe they should stop?

Somebody said Subaru? Photo is back side of the Sierras 20 miles beyond the pavement. Very remote, maybe 100 miles from a tow. No evidence that anyone had been up here at least since last winter's snow.

Subarus are more capable than you might think. This is the seventh time I've bought a 4 wheel drive, starting from ratted-out '55-56 Willys Wagons. 25 years now for this one. It's all I need.

The 'road' down into our mining claim. Again, 20 miles from pavement.

i wouldn't have any application for a lifted $100k 4 door pickup.

Mr. PhD, I’m sorry, but that is NOT anything close to real off roading. lol
I could drive those trails in a 4x2 Ford ranger.

quivering in fear about AI?
Weren’t you a big Covid mask/vax and election alarmist
There's no point in trying to discuss issues with you when a personal attack is the only way you know to reply.

BTW I'm retired, comfortably, 25+ years now. And apparently better-informed too. :)

It's been years since I've given up trying to have a conversation with someone but - Plonk. I'm sure you have a personal attack ready to go but I'm done trying to have a conversation on that basis. Bye!

"...a temporary labor initiative between the United States and Mexico that allowed Mexican workers to be employed in the U.S. agricultural and railroad industries from 1942 to 1964.

The program, which was designed to fill agriculture shortages during World War II, offered employment contracts to 4.6 million braceros in 24 U.S. states. It was the largest guest worker program in U.S. history."

AI cannot lay brick or block, frame stud walls, run wire through conduit, pour concrete, do plumbing, roofing, lay tile, install drywall, or run chainsaws. It cannot in a substantial way displace most of the building trades in any way I see yet. I do not see it being a big loss of labor in ship building, power plant construction, road construction, or building constructionetc.

The trades are mostly safe from AI. It’s the paper pushers, clerical workers, low-middle management that are in danger. Much of this also depends on whether you include robotics as part of AI. I am not.

Add to that the much lower birth rates in the USA, and it’s not the catastrophe everyone is making it out to be.
Then add to that the number of energy jobs that will need to be created to supply the electrical power needed. We may be building dozens of nuclear power plants in the next 5-10 years.

IMO, AI will help re-direct the yutes into high paying trades.
I believe that robotics and AI are or will be married. Why not? The ability to physically manipulate things will greatly increase the usefulness of AI. Regular old computers already control machinery. AI-powered robots are probably already here, just not doing trades tasks yet. Don't blink too long, or you'll miss the transition.

I do, too.
But you and I know both know robotics have been taking over assy line and other kinds of jobs for decades.
What I am reading here are some folks are confused about AI taking over jobs, when it’s the robotics that actually DO the work, right?

AI will enhance the ability of the robotics in ways we probably don’t know yet, but I still don’t see robotics doing many trades.
I’m not worried. I’m open minded.

I’ll leave the worrying to the left coastie quaking in his boots. 😁

Better? My 4 speed Wagoneer. (Years ago when I was better looking. Never put a scratch on it. Well except for the underside. :) )

Not a subaru though, right? I mean like, what are we doing here?

I don't fear the inevitable. Every one of us has benefitted from modern technology and oil energy.
If you want to stop AI, perhaps the United Brotherhood Union of Buggy Whipmakers will be willing to help fund that.

As for bad-a$$ off-road machines, my ancient Vanagon Syncro Wesphalia will take you to some ruggedly remote places, and gives good bed too.
