Hello,

I live in MN and am starting a hobby farm with 2-3 cows, pigs, and chickens on 20 acres. I need to get a tractor that will support the starting up of the farm. Major tasks are snowplowing, fence post digging, brush chopping and a small amount of land clearing, haybale and feed moving, small garden tilling. I'm sure there will be more tasks that the tractor will definitely come in handy for. Haying is done by another farmer that keeps part of the hay. Land is flat, and about 1/3rd wooded. Also, I have a very long driveway that will require a plow in the winter.

Looking for input on aspects that I may not have considered with the Kubota L4060 vs TYM T474. The implements I need will require 2 remotes on the rear and a decent PTO HP, along with an extra hydro. for the FEL. I want a cab as well.

The Kubota dealership is 1 hour away and the TYM is 1.5 hours. Both dealerships have been good to work with in getting quotes, seem to have good reviews, and want my business. The price tag on the Kubota L4060 is what's causing me to look at TYM, $14K more for a similar featured tractor is a hard pill to swallow. TYM is an unknown brand to me, so I am just curious about how they stack up against the Kubota's stellar reputation.

I have also looked at the MF 1840M and New Holland Boomer 40, both dealerships are about 1 hour away but have local service trucks. I liked them both as well, but the Kubota and TYM have better lifting capacity and HP.

I want a new tractor and both have good financing deals that are comparable.

Budget is important, but so is a reliable tractor that will be there when I need it. I can do regular maint. myself so that's not a huge concern.

Seeing if anyone has experience with either of these and could sway me in a direction.

Thanks for the input!

You may also want to check out Kioti and Yanmar. Last quote I got from Kioti was $38k for a DK5320SE Cab with loader, third function, and one rear remote standard. Kioti is the American trade name for the Korean Daedong corporation. They offer pretty good bang for your buck.

Yanmar is a century old Japanese company that builds some of the best diesels out there. The YT347 and YT359 are excellent high end tractors that come with two rear remotes standard and a ten year powertrain warranty.

Thank you! I looked a little bit into Kioti and had some quotes. The TYM dealer is also the Kioti dealer. I will look into Yanmar.

Watcha wanna know about the T474, I've had mine for 5 years and 615h with no problems. Main use is brush cutting on the side, logging and snow removal.

I can't help you on the tractor end ... But have you considered a 3 point "post pounder" for your fence post work? (No digging or back filling!) Would work off one of the rear remotes ...

How's the maintenance on it? Any issues with getting parts?

Any features you feel that sets it apart from the other brands?

I heard the cab was a little cramped, with some of the controls in awkward places, though I will test drive one here in a little bit so I suppose I will find out. Wondering if I should look into the T494, though the larger frame and cab size would sacrifice some mobility.

Thank you for letting me ask my questions!

I didn't until now! Do they work well for a variety of fence post sizes?

I went with TYM despite Kubota less than 10 miles away and 55 to the nearest TYM dealer.

85 hours and zero problems with my T574 (turbo version of same engine in T474).

I grew up spitting distance from Minn. Started college at UMinn. What lake are you near?

For a cabbed Kubota in that size range, look at the MX series instead of the L series if cost is a factor.
