Winter preparation.

I had issues starting the generator last winter, choke system. So I just did yearly maintainance, glad I did. Battery posts still made connection, but they were super corroded. Battery terminal broke just taking bolt off. Ordered a OEM battery which served us well, and was $48 compared to locals $115+. replaced positive cable due to corrosion, but cleaned and left it attached as a jumper. Battery is a major PIA to take out and/or put a charger on it. (I do have a built in trickle charger, but only works if plugged in. Winter not the time to discover)
Snowblower gets serviced closer to snow time. will start moving firewood onto patio under deck sometime in late Sept to Oct. I have removable doors to close in patio that will get hung in October or after leaves change and fall. Will winterize all power equipment once I'm done using for year and store. Not sure I can cut firewood anymore, Have plenty for this season and a bit more. Nothing cut down for next year though.

Most of this has already been posted but here's the condensed version:

1 - Retired the coal stove and replaced the aging oil furnace.
2 - Installed a whole house 11K Diesel generator.

3 - topped off the 1000 gal fuel oil tank for heat & to fuel generator & tractors.
4 - replaced the 25 year old ductless A/C with new heat pump ductless heat & A/C units for backup heating.
5 - Had 23 tons of anti skid delivered to replace the coal ash I used to spread on the road.
6 - bought a self loading 3pt spreader to spread it.

7 - Currently building a storage "bin" for the anti skid to make it easier to load the spreader.

It's been a busy end of summer.
How are you going to prevent anti skid from freezing?

Remove the cutter from the tractor and install the rear blade. Buy winter diesel in November. I already have more food around here than I can eat in 6 months. And no more wood cutting since I converted to natural gas heating.

@bdhsfz6 That's an amazing loader spreader that you have. Where did you find it and what is in your "anti-skid" material?

All the best, Peter

Need to split more of the dry Ash, way behind on this one.
Snow blade is ready, need to do oil change on walk behind snow blower.

Empty your local grocery store of bread and milk.

Then continue to monitor the 'open' status of a nearby "waffle house".

Good luck.
waffle house is always critical here (hurricane country)

It's an HLA Snow Scattershot

The manufacturer claims it will spread material up to 1/2" in diameter.
I haven't used it yet but I'm going to order bulk aggregate from my local quarry that is a stone mix from dust up to 1/4". I may mix in some salt if necessary, since the spreader is heavily galvanized and corrosion resistant. Sand or bank run would be a bit cheaper but it tends to clump up more than stone.

The unit requires 2 remotes, one for the spreader motor and the other for the tilt cylinders. A third remote is needed for the optional flow shutoff gate but isn't necessary for the type of material I plan to use.
