My Starlink got taken out last night with a hail storm. Need new roof, two new windows, most of the window screens, 10 shutters, new outdoor sconce lights, A/C condenser, wife car is damaged, trees and branches down.

The Starlink antenna has dings on it and won't connect. Apparently, there are some aftermarket poly carbonate protective covers for anyone else that might be hail prone.

Looks like a marketing ploy put in place May 2025. There is no longer a waiting list in the USA according to the Starlink website. Previously in congested areas there was a waiting list, to avoid slow service problems for existing users due to lack of capacity. The waiting list was replaced by the "Demand Surcharge", to discourage new customers from signing up in congested areas. If enough people pay it Starlink gets increased revenues while existing customers get decreased speed but hey, no waiting list.

Sorry for your damage, hope everything works out. I watched the storms on the radar and saw the damage reports on the news. Thankfully the storms fizzled out before reaching us.

Here is my quote, I couldn't get the $89 Standard Kit but they did give me the rural living bonus also known as the Demand Surcharge! I don't think I'll be changing internet providers.

My neighborhood recently got a new wifi system that does 300/100. So far it works well. Being of the cautious nature I am putting Starlink on pause while I evaluate the system.

There telling my the fiber will be 300/300 for $75 per month. But i too will find out how to keep starlink on a pause or whatever for backup.

I just ordered my replacement Starlink antenna to replace my hail damaged one. Cost me $199 for a refurbed system.

As luck would have it, we have fiber being installed on our street right now, with expected hook-up in late October, early November.

You must live in a cell with a lot of current subscribers.

Instead of signing up for residential service with guaranteed priority you could sign up for Roam service and take a chance that even though you have a lot of neighbors with Starlink they might not be 'busy' neighbors. Roam service is subject to deprioritization but from what I have read it doesn't happen frequently. So you might end up with solid service. You can always cancel, though you'd be on the hook for hardware if you don't return within the window (30 days?). The Roam 'unlimited' plan is more expensive than residential but the $45/mo is a lot less than $1000. Too bad you didn't get in on the $175 sale which ended a couple weeks back.
