I have a horses and they generate a good amount of manure. Daily I rake up the manure and fill plastic trash cans with it. Then I empty the manure into my tractor bucket and use the tractor to dump the manure into the big dumpster on the street.

Today I came across this dumpster bucket.

It’s oversize, similar to a light/bulk material bucket. It holds about 3X the capacity of my current regular bucket.

It seems like just the ticket to fill and dump manure. The only drawback would be it doesn’t have a scraper edge. Also, it may rust.. but any metal bucket will.

Has anyone used one of these? Are there downsides I don’t yet realize?

I wish you lived nearby, I would take all your horses can provide. My pasture land/hay fields are needing fertilizer, but AZ to IN is a long haul.

A couple observations. First, you'll need to be careful to not overload it. Manure might be OK, but buckets are generally sized for the machine and going 3 times bigger can easily overload. Second, it looks really deep and likely a lot heavier than your current bucket so breakout or tilting will be affected. Last, the front lip it angled up so make sure your dump angle is enough that you'll be able to dump everything out. Another option would be just getting a skid steer or wider bucket for light tasks.

I fabricated my own bucket for snow plowing with my GC2610. I went from 4 feet in width to 6 feet and added 8 inches to the height. My tractor struggles slightly to lift a very full bucket of wet snow. This might give people an idea of what they might be able to use.

I fabricated my own bucket...
As did I for the Kenbota. All I had was a piece of scrap tube. I had to flatten it out then fold, cut and weld it. Still using it today.

Here, I'm cutting out a side.

I built a cement block bin about 8x8x4 with a concrete floor. Had the little woman dump all the manure in there then any bucket small enough to fit in the dumpster (60") was used to load the weekly haul off bin.

I made a bolt on 2 foot long extension for the bucket on my Yanmar YM 2310 tractor. I am fully cognizant that this extension allows me to carry too much dirt or rock with the extension, especially since the bucket sides are also extended. But for light stuff, which I made it for, it is great. All kinds of bushes and tree limbs from blow downs and so on go into that bucket and into the burn pile. I say go for it, just don't overload it.

for dry horse droppings, plywood extensions on your present bucket will work just fine. and wont rust!
