Jury Duty Scam

Somehow, the scammers know which accounts I have set up for autopay and they are now sending me emails saying "Sorry, your last payment to ---------- did not go through. Please give us your credit card information immediately to make your payment." Hanging would be way too good for these little pr-cks.

I get these on a regular basis… for a while up to 8 calls per day. I checked my caller ID once and had over 300 one month. It gets annoying to say the least.

I’ve gotten into the habit when driving to answer the phone, toss it onto the dash and turn the radio up. Of course it only works if the phone isn’t connected to my Bluetooth.

Just lay the phone down with them talking. Amazing how well that works.

I am the same way, if it's not in my contacts list I don't answer it. But this one left a distinct voicemail so it piqued my interest. He tried to call back today, I told him 1230, I am eastern he number was central he called at 1130 eastern. Obviously I didn't answer.

To the O.P. You’re in a lot of trouble, missing jury duty. For a small fee I can get you out of trouble. I can bribe the bailiff and make it all go away.

I had one about 6 months ago. They said they were with Medicare and that I needed a new Medicare card and I needed to give them my Medicare card number. I told them to confirm it by reading it to me. They said that a different division had my number. I told them to have the person that has my number call me. Click, no other calls.

I don't answer with a business name but ask them if they have a retainer with us. I'm not supposed to speak to them if they don't.

As long as there is money to be scammed, they are going to keep trying and innovating. Fake invoices to businesses are a constant issue.

At home, if you aren't in our known caller list, the call goes straight to voicemail, and our cells have automatic spam identification, but it isn't 100%, both ways, in part because scammers can so easily generate fake caller ID of legitimate numbers.

My doctor's office did for a while, but now shows the proper caller ID.

This does seem to be becoming more common as many customer support staffers use cellphones for their business number. My representative with the company my IRA is with's number just shows as "wireless caller". I've seen that with a few others too.
Fortunately, they leave voicemails.
