Cost of steel?

Indeed! But not only steel. The scrap yard supports nearly 90% of everything in my shop. My shop is overloaded with hand tools, power tools, machines, building materials, power transmission devices, kitchen appliances and anything else of interest to me that is made of metal, all from the scrap yard.

I do live it to some degree. I find it difficult to pass on good resource at 20 cents per pound, especially since I know that good things usually don’t last.

Seriously fellows, I have stories about deals that most would find unbelievable. However the trick is being at the right place at the right time. My greatest find was a Series 1 Bridgeport with 48” table and chrome ways. The motor was bad but the rest is in great condition. I got it for $400. Another find was two job boxes loaded with pipe fitting tool, mostly Ridgid, all lightly used for less than $200. I currently have two pallets loaded with bar, and structural steel of various sections waiting on hold for me when I get back in town. Check them out if you can!!!

Just picked up a piece of 1/2"x 4"x 20'. $200 at our local steel yard, local is a little more than an hr away. Not cheap, but what I needed.
