I watched "A Beautiful Mind" a long time ago, and it uses a similar approach. It is "based on" a biography of a real guy, but the entire story line is fictionalized. If movies reflected reality, they would probably be boring.Ugh. My wife couldn't stand that movie and I thought it depressing.
The movie has Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman and was based on the 1969 autobiography by the French convict Henri Charrière.
I didn't believe most of the movie happened the way Henri Charriere recounted.
I thought the movie was entertaining, but I found it strange that the hype pretended that it was a true story.
