Someone else may have posted something similar, but there are soy-based products that are eco-friendly. Downloads - EP&A Envirotac Inc is one. There's another I know of, that also controls weeds...but I can't recall the product name (and I know the guy who developed it). When I get it, I'll add it to the thread.

Yep, Calcium Chloride works but taboo in many areas now due to pollution. For sure banned near lakes and streams as it messes up the acidity or PH of waterways.
In days past many folks used used engine oil which is also a no-no.

In my area (Quebec) they favor liquid wood resins which they spread with tanker trucks.
The resin soaks into the dusty sandy dirt/gravel road base and nicely controls dust. Generally 2 applications per summer controls dust quite well.

One down side to Calcium Chloride (a salt) is the corrosive effect on vehicles.
And hard on animals paws if you have dogs.

We always used the motor oil growing up and spread sand over the top. Now we have a chip seal that the county put down on our road.

I called 2 local dust control companies here this year. 660’ x 12’ of the lignin (?) product…….$1,800. Didnt want to spend that much.

They didnt offer mag chloride. And i hate mag chloride. Thats the reason for rust on every vehicle

With my luck if I put down CaCl one of my neighbors would sue me, blaming me for anything that's rusty claiming it is my fault for using it without permission.

They put down the crushed used concrete in my companies truck terminal in Nogales, AZ ... Bits of rebar and all!

It is very DUSTY!

They put a sprinkler out there to get it down around the shop area so the mechanics can breathe!

If it's a public road the county should take care of it. If it's a private road of course you're on your own but you could ask the county road department for acceptable solutions.

Ive never seen a county do anything about dust control on a dirt road. Maybe some do, but not around here. Its just accepted that dirt roads are dusty. Adding more ball field clay to the existing sand and clay mix does help.
