Kohler is no more

My Craftsman (Cub Cadet) riding mower has the Kohler 24HP two cyl. engine in it. That was the main reason I bought it. I have had it for about 6 years now and no issues.
Pretty much the same. My Craftsman has the KT725. No issues.

I think the only running kohler I have is the 20hp magnum in my Simplicity Sunstar. The aftermarket has stepped up pretty good when it comes to parts for the older Kohler's anyways.

My last Kohler=powered device was just about worthless. The engine had a number of issues. I'd bought it right, and let it go for what I had in it. I was glad to see it go down the road. Several friends had similar issues with similar products. They used to be a reliable power plant, sad they went downhill.
Yup. My Kohler in my 17RES standby generator has been working fine since I bought it in 2012. Shocking to hear that Kohler has gone downhill.

Also, neighbors who have Generators tell me that my Kohler Generator is one of the quietest they've ever heard, so I feel lucky.

Nothing is as good as it once was. Or at least that seems to be the case with most things that have brands that go back several years. I use to swear by Briggs and Stratton when I was young, and lately I just seem to swear at them.
I've had mixed experiences with B&S engines as far back as I can remember. Some seemingly run forever, others are a POS.

I also had a Craftsman rider mower with a Kohler, and it was fine. The reason it got junked had nothing to do with the engine.
And then won't ship from another warehouse that has stock unless you are willing to pay a separate freight charge.
Lots of that going around. Rock Auto is a big offender in that regard too.

Main reason I quit doing business with them. Last time I tried to order from them , 3 items and each shipping from different location. $44 for 3 items and $ 37 shipping. No way. Placed order at different company for $48 delivered. Never tried them again

This is good news for the established engine makers like Briggs or Kawasaki

For Rock auto you just have to shop based on the warehouses, I pick the most important thing or particular thing I need and then shop the rest based on if they are in the same warehouse.

They at least mark things that ship from the same warehouse once you select an item.

I don't use them for everything, but you can find some good deals on name brand stuff sometimes.

Trouble is, all the brake parts (for example) seem to be in the same warehouse, bulbs/electrical all in another, etc. I've tried what you suggest and it's never worked.

We bought an eXmark ZTR mower new in 2016. It's got 750 hours on it now and the Kohler Command engine is already showing internal issues. We believe it's a valve issue. It'll act like it goes down to one cylinder randomly, pop and backfire, and generally run like garbage at random times. Other times it's OK.

This engine has had maintenance every season and has been taken care of. I'm not impressed.

My 2005 Command was having similar issues, especially dropping 1 cylinder and running rough. Replaced both coils and problems went away. Not saying coils are your issue but in my case, it took care of problem. 2 coils and voltage regulator only parts I have had to replace.

Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. If the shipping doesn't make it cost effective I buy elsewhere, but typically I save enough even with shipping that I'm still ahead.

My best buddy had that motor in his mower, and had the lifters go bad. Kohler/dealer replaced them under some secret out of warranty deal.

My neighbor installed a new Kohler generator 2 years ago....out of the 5 generators, it is the noisiest thing in the neighborhood!!

The Kohler Company had an interesting story. Kohler Wisconsin if I recall properly started as a mill town. It's been a long while since I've been there. Had a 3 story bath and kitchen design center that was really cool. A top notch golf course. Enough to do in the area if you are ever passing through.

Ive worked on kohler, generac, cummins and onan AIR COOLED over the years. I really see no difference between the residential units. There all just fine for occasional emergency power outages. Non are great for off grid, continuous power supply. There not designed for continuous use.

WHEN i decided on servicing a brand full time, i chose Generac over the others because i found parts, tech support and quality better on Generac units. I really dont have many issues on the air cooled units i service. I have units with over 2,000 hours still running fine.

Ive seen troublesome units on all brands ive serviced. Everyone bashes Generac without a real reason. They have something like a 80-85% market share, so of course there are more complaints. I do like Generac warranty department, as ive never had a denied claim in 12 years.
