and web sites where they have pop ups covering everything, click on it and another pop up covers the screen.
That's when I usually just close the browser.
There's another forum I used to frequent, that went this route. I stopped using that forum solely because of the obnoxious levels of advertising that began when they fell under new ownership.

Cologard? My wife has this extreme dislike of colonoscopies (don't we all?), so she had her doctor order one for her as an alternative. Came back positive, so she still had to get the procedure done.
That's the one. It has a significant rate of false positives and false negatives, so fingers crossed that it turns out to be nothing.

Not a problem here, I have 8 pair stashed in various rooms in the house, 2 in the shop and 1 pair in each vehicle (total of 4 in vehicles) and 2 more brand new spares in the desk drawer in the den.
I was buying them 4 at a time at dollar tree. The last time though, I bought a package of 3 for about $10 from somewhere else. They've lasted so much longer than the $1.50/pair glasses that I won't be buying them from $Tree any longer.

Ad/popup blockers are a wonderful thing.
Often, yes. Other times, they block desired functionality.

But sometimes it leaves more of an impression when a huge fraction of their customer base votes with their feet, by walking away!

We don't watch much TV. Wouldn't it be nice if Direct or Dish you could choose, say, 5 channels at a lower rate instead of $100+/month for "top 120", paying for 115 useless channels.
Now we have a small antenna getting 35 free channels which is OK except "peeved" we don't get a couple we'd like to watch.
The satellite companies would get thousands of new customers if they did that for a good price.
It's not the cable/satellite companies who are the culprits here but the content providers who insist on programming bundles. I believe it's advertising-related. If a lot of their channels are subscribed to by a large audience, they can charge more for ads, even though few people see them on the less popular channels. Ever notice that everyone seems to have the same selection of channels? It sucks, but the providers seem to be holding all the cards.

Holds true for streaming providers too (Sling, Philo, etc.).

Exactly. The cable providers would love to sell you just the channels you want, these bundling requirements are precisely what's driving their customers away, and toward streaming services! But the content providers have them by the short and curlies!

I get it, web hosting isn't free and ads pay the costs. But do these ads really need to be so obnoxious and in your face? There's really no excuse for popup ads or highly animated ones. Don't the advertisers and/or the 3rd party companies that insert these ads realize that? Is there so little money to be made with web advertising that webmasters have to take whatever revenue they can get? When the ads detract from the content, everyone loses.

True...but the satellite companies would make $Millions with reasonable price packages like 5 for $30...10 for $40/month. They have the technology to block unwanted channels.
They're loosing a huge customer base. We would like to get Fox news for example and we can stream & pair phone to TV. I can get 5 minutes snippets.

New rain parka hoods.

Old hoods were fine. The last two purchased, different makes, have hoods so long that they fall down to nose or mouth level unless you are wearing a cap. There are no adjustments on them. Walking around blind must be the new fashion.
