You Know You Are Old When

For the first time in a LONG time I stopped at Mickie D's.

Fish fillet sandwich, standard drink and I upsized the fries to a large.

I had to pay them $11 to get change back.

I know some restaurants for $4 more I can get a much better meal (but I guess I don't have to tip at Mickie D's LOL).
I don't go to any fast food restaurants without coupons unless the boss is very hungry and insists. Very little more buys you much better food in a better restaurant and my car stays clean inside.

We frequented this small store out in the boonies and this guy ringing me up, several old guys sitting around, clerk asks "son...how old are you". "Fifteen" I replied. He said "Well...at least he's honest". Everyone cracked up.

When I just now looked up from my recliner in my garage.

Ahhhh the mini skirt days! I can hear my boss even now: "FUDDY!!! Stop washing that windshield!!!!! Get in here and change these tires!".

Imagine $3.00 for gas and I checked the oil, trans fluid (if automatic), brake fluid, coolant, tire pressure, washed windows. View attachment 4356386
How much of that $3.OO did you get?
I remember washing a lady’s windshield, she had one foot on the tunnel and the other on the floor by the clutch pedal!!!😲😲😲

My standard line when someone wants to eat fast food while traveling is "My truck is NOT a restaurant". So we either go somewhere that we can sit down or we don't eat. And I am not real happy with having drinks in them either, usually, some way or another a spill happens.

A teen full of energy it probably took me 5 minutes. As gas was filling we had the tireflator right there, usually stayed on 32.
$1.50/hour so about 13 cents. Air & windshield wash was free...but nothing else!

Remember the tireflator? Ding-ding-ding-ding...ding.....ding..........ding!

No kidding! YKYO when you remember when you could get a quick, filling meal at a fast food place relatively cheap. Even the so-called value meals aren't much of a value...often just combining multiple items that you may or may not have wanted all of.

Most of the time when I'm on the road and want to grab something to eat I'm by myself, and would rather get something I can eat while driving than to have to spend an hour at a sit-down place. I rarely get a drink at a FF place because they're kind of a ripoff (and seem to insist on putting so much ice in there there's only room for a couple sips of soda). Cheaper to get a "big glug" fountain drink at a gas station (though most of the cups don't fit in vehicle cupholders).

Sometimes, you get what you ask for. There was huge pressure on McDonalds to clean up their act 20 years ago, and start offering more healthy options and better ingredients. Some of you may remember the backlash they faced after the movie "Supersize Me", and other similar media coverage.

They responded, and it's actually vastly "less bad" today than it was decades ago. But costs went up, no surprise, it costs more to offer more options and more expensive ingredients!

When I was travelling I got to the point I would buy food at the grocery store and eat in my room. It was cheaper, healthier and once I got in I didn't have to change and go back out again. I'd rent rooms with a minifridge and microwave for baking potatoes and heating vegetables, and buy precooked ham or rotissiere chicken.

How was McDonalds cheaper way back then?
When I started going with my friends around 13-4 a Big Mac cost around $0.89-0.99.
Minimum wage was aboot $2.50/hr.
Now a Big Mac is aboot $6.99 around here.
Minimum wage is pushing $18.
If anything it works out a bit cheaper.
Just $1 sounds like such a deal compared to $7 without comparing reference points.
Mind you that doesn't take into account the down sizing of the burger itself.

And everyone complains aboot coffee. What happened when most people took a thermos to work. I used to take 2. Now everyone is lined up like sheeple trying to get their overpriced awful beverage on the way to work.
