I don't have anybody on ignore but if I did, he'd be second on the list. Then again, there likely are people who feel the same about me. Over time I've learned that everybody has something to contribute, you just need to glean the grain from the chaff. It appears that 5030 (Darryl?) pulled his own weight throughout his life, and you can't ask more than that from any man.
RIP.

My folks didn't want a funeral. But when each died we instead ended up having a "Memorial". Not quite sure what the difference is. We, their children, did this because so many people requested us to do so. I was truly touched by how many folks showed up for each. I guess the memorials comforted them, and I'm glad for that. They all got to say goodbye. It was trying for my brothers and I to speak about our dead parents. For me it was especially trying to talk about my dad. I just couldn't seem to convey how valuable the lessons my dad taught me were and how much I missed him. How much he helped me to try to be a decent human being. How much I wanted to thank him again for that. I can't type anymore.
Eric
For my mother and wife both times I had a simple Catholic funeral mass at church followed by a luncheon afterwards in the church hall. Family members who wanted to speak were given time at the luncheon. Otherwise the service was directed by the priest; we just chose the readings beforehand. Simple and dignified.

Same. It's now OK for Catholics to be cremated, but there are rules about where the ashes can be. Definitely cannot strewn about. I think many bury them.

MIL wasn't Catholic, but we buried her urn near her boys who were killed in '77.

It’s not for everyone, boss.
Judaism, Islam, and Eastern Orthodox Christianity are among the religions that do not support cremation, as they believe in the sanctity of the body and prefer burial instead.
Yep, and given certain circumstances you have to go to your clergy because you need an escape clause to the rules because you find out you can't follow the rules for some dumb reason :ROFLMAO:

Technically speaking, I believe my family was Greek Carpatho Russian Orthodox, so believe me, I'm familiar with all the rules that can be in religion that really have nothing to do with the kind of life you should lead IMO.

When I told one of my last surviving aunts (on my moms side) that my dad was being cremated over the phone, there was a pause, and then she said "oh, you know if you're cremated you can't get into Heaven?" I love her enough that I just kept my mouth shut (I would have started off by stating that originally my father was catholic and was kicked out of the catholic church for my marrying my mom, so perhaps he was exempt?:ROFLMAO:)

Interesting reads (nothing to do with my own churches rules, but interesting anyways)

Back in the 70's and 80's, no way would my father every be caught dead being cremated, it was against the "rules". Being my dad was one of about 10 siblings and my mom was 1 of 11, and my dad lived long enough to see about 30 of his siblings and brother and sister in laws buried, he came to the conclusion that following a lot of the "old burial rules" was both kind of stupid, possibly a real PITA, and definitely cost more money.

Given the fact that he died in NC and was getting buried with his wife at a national cemetery along with a bunch of his brothers close to 500 miles away, I was kind of grateful he told us that when he was gone, just cremate him and get him up to the cemetery to be with his wife, and that he would haunt me if I didn't have an open bar and dinner on him after his service.

That said, whatever floats your boat and whatever you believe in to get into your heaven, knock yourself out.

Well said(y)
So being mean and/or a racist is OK if you are productive? I read his posts that were both. I don't like to see this, and will not support either, whether I had coffee with the person or not or if they are productive.

Obviously you’re being a bit sarcastic in your post here, but trust me when I say, there are a lot of people who take the rules of their religions seriously, and cremation may not be allowed. I’m not in one of those religions, but some people are.

Believe me, I get it.

As mentioned, it is interesting though how the rules can vary of change over time with different religions.

I'm thinking if you're a little bit extremists in your burial beliefs, if we ever get to the point of space travel outside our solar system (who knows in another 1000 years), you won't want to go.

For myself, I do believe in "for dust you are and to dust you will return", but at the end of the day, it's going to happen really no matter what.

As mentioned, whatever floats your boat ;)

Out of curiosity, did you ever call him out on those posts and call him racist and mean?
