Hope this thread will be of interest to others buying their first tractor.
Well, the new tractor finally came today. Watched him lift everything off the trailer, wincing at every clank and knowing that was ridiculous. Asked for a quickie lesson on the controls, as the manual is a little, shall we say, opaque.
PRE-CHECK: Make sure parking brake on, everything else off, low, slow, or neutral, and implements down.
START: Clutch Down, Glow Plug On, Glow Plug Light goes off, turn to start. Easy.
RUN: Increase engine speed to 1500, Lift FEL off ground and curl up slightly, Lift rear implement a little, Release parking brake, and go.
RUN UNDER LOAD: Increase engine speed to 2500.
STOP: Stop, Parking brake on, Engine speed back to idle, Lower FEL and rear implement to the ground. Turn off. Easy.
Job one, box blading the parking area, which was very overgrown with grass. Took a couple tries to get the teeth at the right depth for ripping. Also adjusted the knob that controls the lift/lower speed on the 3-point to slower, which seemed to give more fine control. After a couple ripping passes, removed the teeth and did just a quick smoothing pass. Took a few minutes to get used to feathering the control to get a smooth result versus my tiny garden tractor w/ box blade. The tractor did a great job in less than an hour.

Couple of observations:
Having never driven a real tractor I was intimidated by the size when shopping and test driving. I followed the advice here to buy UP a size and it felt like riding a brontosaurus at first, but I'm already getting used to it, which is a big relief. I will say honestly I was worried I would never feel comfortable on it.
The filled tires make a HUGE difference in how stable it feels when operating (tires were not filled during test drives). I believe this has helped my comfort level a lot. Fully endorse!
One thing I noticed is the 3-point-hitch lift control does nothing for the first 3 inches or so when lifting, and then of course the same on the last 3 inches when lowering. It's a big implement; maybe with a smaller implement that wouldn't be the case.
Big adjustment is the 3-point always being in float. The electric sleeve hitch on my garden tractor has the option of down-pressure.
