I added a piece of 18" flexible exhaust pipe to my exhaust today. I was on the tractor 4 hours today and I didn't smell the exhaust

Here's a quick pic....I'm gonna shoot about a 30 sec clip tomorrow and post it. 20190222_072234.jpeg

That was the first thing I did to my 4540, except I did not use flex pipe, I used solid pipe and connected it to the oem pipe with 2 sheet metal screws

Hey Hamiltonville! How did you attach that flexible exhaust at both ends? Did you clamp it to the existing pipe? I didn't see a clamp in your pic. Did you ever do a video on this? I am tired of breathing exhaust, almost as bad as my old oil burning 8N! YouTube subscriber to your channel

Yes, the kit came with a clamp. Still running it this way. It works great.

Did you attach it any way at the bottom? I'm going to buy one tomorrow.

I used safety wire and secured it to the frame where the FEL goes.

This is my first post. I've been a tractor owner, used 2016 4550 w/ 400 hours, for 2 months, bootstrapping on everything tractor related. My wife and I really like the tractor but the fumes are a show stopper. After bush hogging 4 hours 5 days ago, my lungs were so sore they still aren't completely back to normal. (I had years of daily exposure to diesel when I was young though, so that might explain the over-reactivity now that I'm a geezer). So I'm super happy to see this and will try it out tomorrow.

I'm curious though, why would hanging down 18" make the difference?

I got the same part and installed the same way as shown in #3 above. Instead of just just ahead of the driver about the level the brake pedal, the exhaust exits 15 or 16" below that. I can look down and see it just forward of and below me. Unfortunately I can't say it's better. The fumes come right up to the driver's seat. The smell is actually pretty tolerable, not much worse than a slow down in rush hour traffic or getting behind a school bus. But for some reason it's much more aggravating to my pre-existing lung issues. Next I guess I'll look into how it might be possible to route it behind the driver.
