    Thoughts on Delvac ESP 5w40?

Delvac1 was available long before Rotella T 5-40. It was a fantastic oil then. We tested it the Bradley Fighting Vehicle transmission in a test cell environment in the 90’s with extended drain times of 8 times normal with minimal shear. I’m sure it’s still ranked in the top 3 brands. 90cummins

Oil viscosity change for a 5.7 Hemi?

The motor oil Geek responded to the GM RECALL recommending that 0w40 be used rather than 0w20. 0w40 protects crankshaft bearings much better than 0w20 because of thicker film thickness. The sole reason for GM recommending 0w20 was to raise their corporate average fuel economy which raises...

    155 Sluge from exhaust Why?

Check the thermostat for proper operation it very important that the engine gets up to temperature. If the radiator gets warm as soon as the engine is started the thermostat may be bad. Top of radiator should be hotter than bottom by a significant amount. It can be difficult to get the engine...

Yanmar L70 - Heavy (lots) smoke

I agree it sounds like it’s over speeding. I would adjust the governor linkage to reduce the speed as my 1st step in diagnosing. 90cummins

I keep breaking 1/2 ratchets on my lug nuts.

Dry rusty fasteners can be very difficult to install & remove. A dry fastener will often not torque up smoothly often resisting torque then snapping loose as more torque is applied which can be painful and break tools. I always clean & lubricate my lug nuts or screws before assembly. I always...

Gravity-purification in your hydraulic tank (or perhaps better,... on the shelf)

The drawback to being on the outside is if they are removed the particles trapped on the inside are released in bulk into the system. Having said that I’ve mounted some on the outside but secured them in place.

    Your last generator Maintenance Run

3/17/2025 Lost power at 10:30 this morning and my battery backup also went down & that’s not supposed to happen!!! With today’s political environment I briefly started thinking is this the big one??😬 Stop, relax & think logically. Start at the power source, no dc power to inverter so I check...

Rad fan vs finger. Don’t be complacent.

I knew better, I really did! I did a major no-no & I’m lucky it wasn’t worse. Was boring 1-1/8 holes in a 2x4 to make a table for mounting my pipe clamps for a glue up station & my hand was pulled into the bit. The photos tell the story no explanation needed. No nerve or tendon damage...

I’ve always known it’s a big no-no but I’ve never seen/heard of the specific damage, could you elaborate. Injection pump, piston cylinder damage? 90cummins

    Your last generator Maintenance Run

Building a load bank is relatively easy and affordable. I use portable space heaters for my testing. They are typically 1400 watts and inexpensive when you consider the consequences of not loading a generator properly. I have 3 similar to this and 1 with three heat elements of 2.5kw each...

What was the exercise cycle? A proper exercise load would be 50% for 30 minutes minimum which may not be possible unless there is a load bank in the system. 90cummins
