I have repaired a couple of the mil surplus l70s & each one had a bad camshaft due to condensation in oil corroding the injection pump cam lobe which affects injection timing.
Wet stacking can be a problem with these.
I also had one that had a stuck injection rack. It
sat in my shop for quite...
I must be the only old school guy here with a freshly rebuild 1974 vintage 32ci 16hp cast iron Briggs.
Loads of low end torque. Idling at 1400 rpm it will generate 2500psi without stalling driving a 28 gpm 2 stage pump.

That’s the nice thing about being able to move my splitter with my 3pt hitch. I can split until the splitter is surrounded with wood then just pick it up & reposition it.
I made my splitter long before I had a tractor so the obvious thing for me was to modify my splitter to be carried by my tractor.
The speed & ability to use the splitter independently from the tractor is not something I would give up.
As far as additional maintenance it’s insignificant.
I’m unable to post a photo or video of my setup.
My splitter is setup so I can move with my pallet forks which are 3pt hitch mounted.
Having its own engine makes it more versatile and is certainly much faster than a PTO powered system.
Splitter has a 16hp cast iron Briggs engine driving a 28...
Front axles do not operate at high speed nor do they generate any significant amount of heat.
Gears do see high loads and are sized to handle it.
I personally would not waste the money on synthetics unless it was use in arctic temperatures.
I’ve operated a 4x4 pickup truck in Alaska & the...

I always use grease, dielectric grease or fluid film on any exposed electrical connections & plugs.

I avoid the pre-measured/pre-diluted oils due to possibility of not being accurately filled.
A 1/4 or 1/2 ounce discrepancy makes a significant change in mix ratio.
My saws are 30 plus years old and run like great so I’m not leaving anything to chance.
I also mix 1 gallon sat a time & use...
This is a good example where a quality battery backup system with pass-thru capabilities can save your voltage critical appliances from low & high voltage fluctuations when you’re not there to take corrective action.
If input voltage exceeds set high/low parameters it will automatically correct...
Nice load bank!!
I use a large 3 element that I use. Each element is switched desperately for a total of 9+-kw. If I need more load 1 have (3) 1.5kw heaters I can add.
I have the same PTO generator. It hadn’t seen much use but it’s on stand-by.
