Dual filters for transfer tank

Been thinking about adding filters to my transfer tank. The tank is 50 gallons and came from a reefer.

Seems two filters would be ideal. Water and particulate.

I have a cheap 12v pump that sucks the fuel from the top of the tank. The tube is about 2” from the bottom of the tank. I could take fuel from the bottom as well

What would you guys recommend?

I use a goldenrod water separating bowl filter with a 17u filter first in line so I can see any contamination, followed by a 2u final filter.

First is water block then a 10 micron and finally a 2 micron.

I use a particulate and a Goldenrod water filter on my 500 gallon diesel storage tank and I am a firm believer in more filtration is better, especially with today's common rail systems on diesel engines , they claim just a little water can be fairly detrimental to your wallet.

The RACOR 500FG is an all in one fuel filter water separator and can see flow of 10 gallons per minute with a 2 micron cartridge.

I like the concept but not the price. I will keep looking but they are over $300. Unless I find one on sale, I will likely go with dual filters.

You should check with a boating supply place for a filter and fittings,
that is where I bought mine 15 years ago.

I never regretted buying the RACOR 500FG as we used them
at the mine where I worked because they prevented a lot of
fuel system damage because of the crap in the fuel tanks
and the water in the diesel fuel.

One complete canister with a stationary turbine vanes spins the dirt
and water out of the fuel and you can have a 2 micron fuel
filter that will last for 10,000 gallons if you are using diesel.

I just have a single goldenrod filter on mine. Never has anything in the bowl either. It's on a heating oil tank sitting outside, stored all kinds of wrong.

I am going to go that route. One filter that takes out water and 17 micron and bigger stuff.

Just need to decide if I want the spin on replaceable canister or the one with the plastic bowel and replaceable element.

I have used both. The spin on water block canister from goldenrod is 10u, but they are more expensive than the cartridge water block filter in the bowl. I personally like to see what's coming out of the tank into the sediment bowl filter.
Either filter will lockup solid with a big slug of water, or slowly restrict flow with lesser amounts of water.

Get the plastic bowl. If you dont see anything in there its prob not worth changing. I have changed that golden rod filter 1x in 5yrs. Granted it's only had 150gal through it but it is heating oil in a heating oil tank.

I go through 100 gallons a year. The storage tank is stored in the pole barn so it does not see the kind of temperature swings an outside tank gets.

404 nouser I had the owner of a Tractor dealership tell me one time in addition to filtration he also strained his tractor fill ups thru a pair of ladies stockings. Said he took no chances as high as this repair work had gotten. So I’m just about so careful I want to handle mine in 5 gallon jugs. But it’s a lot of work. Some of my stuff is tall, and I have to lift it with a bucket tractor

I need to level-up my system. I have the combo goldenrod water block filter, but I’d like to a an additional filter. No injector problems, but I don’t want any in the future, either. I do take some comfort in all my farm tractors having dual fuel filters, so that helps me sleep a little better.

Ok, I am a truck driver so keep this in mind as I go down a rabbit hole.
There are millions of trucks on the road. They all have a fuel filter that keeps the crud out despite the places we manage to find with bad fuel.
Somebody has to sell the replacement filters? Probably pretty widespread, I would think.
There are a bunch of trucks wrecked every day. Each of these trucks are either fixed or sent to a scrapyard as a parts donor. Somebody has to be selling these parts, somewhere.
I am thinking that I might investigate one of these dismantling yards to see what they want for the fuel filter setup. Got to be cheaper than new, I would think. Plus the filters are available at almost any truckstop or parts house.
What do you guys think? I plan on adding it to the fuel supply system on a 2003 Dodge Ram. The truck has been sitting for years, so there is a good chance there is water or other contamination in the system.
