I believe they ware all Mallets, i.e. compound engines. Interesting page about the history of the SP cab forwards. The World of Steam Locomotives

    Idler Pulley Repair

I've done that same thing with the fan belt idler pulleys on my F150. A $10 bearing instead of a $40 new unit. Probably a better bearing than the OEM one used, too.

4199 must have been old SP power, as they were the only ones that ran cab forward steam locomotives.

    Idler Pulley Repair

Neighbor guy had a problem with the idler pulley on his Craftsman 48" mower deck, the bearing fell apart. Was having problems getting one, so I looked at it and told him I could fix it cheaper than buying a new one, as I've done this before. took the pulley off, took it to my shop and drilled...

All EMD power in the lead, kind of unusual for CP, and I don't see any DP units, unless they're out of the frame to the left.

    Mice and Irish spring soap

That's what I used in my hangar for many years. Never saw a mouse sign, in my hangar, but others in other sections had mouse problems. Works in the attic to get rid of squirrels too.

    Pressure Tester

I got the fittings I needed to finish the tester today. Put it all together, used a 3,000PSI gauge I had, added some power steering oil and hooked up a hose I had made up and needed to test. Pumped it up to 1,000PSI and it held just fine. It'll be nice to test hoses before they are installed.

    X534 rear wheel hub failure

I did get the tractor put back together last Tuesday, buy didn't get any pictures. My cousin was in a hurry to get it back together so he could get his yard mowed before we got some possible rain showers. It all went together fine. I Pressed the hub out of the used knuckle, pressed the new wheel...

    X534 rear wheel hub failure

I have had 300# of weights on the back of my 430 that has a snow blower on the front for 25 years, and have never had a problem. That is an entirely different setup than the AWS tractors use.

    X534 rear wheel hub failure

The splines were still good and tight, and as I mentioned, I had to use a gear puller to get the stub shaft pressed out of the hub. It did fit the new hub really well with no play in the splines.

It's not normally a big deal, it's a fine balance between throttle setting and adhesion on those engines. Plus, a little moisture on the rails from the cylinder drains on the front engine can be just enough to get some slippage. Now, setting in one spot and spinning the drivers will flat spot...

    Pressure Tester

I occasionally make up hoses for various purposes, and although I rarely have a problem with them, some of the ones using braided stainless steel are buggers to get put together. I recently made one up for the power steering on my Nova, and when I started it up it leaked out of both ends. So I...
