I didn't think the 35 micron mini fuel filter on my 25hp Mitsubishi motor was good enough. So I upgraded it to a 2 micron CAT type filter. I posted a video on it.

My opinion is switch to a full synthetic oil, like Triax UTTO Supreme. This will probably eliminate any viscosity problems in cold weather and resist aeration of the fluid. I am also a fan of putting bigger filters on with similar or better specs if you can find one.

When you buy the filter, get one with a bleed/pressure Schrader valve in the housing. They usually have spare ports and you could put a pressure gauge on it as well so you can tell when it needs to be changed. Just bought this for 12.00....Just have to figure out how to mount it...

I got a low cost skid steer setup that won't bend my bucket and lifts up to the fel limit.

It could be air in the bucket cylinders causing a diesel pop from the fluid vapors - yeah that's a thing. One way to check is to try and move the bucket by hand. If the cylinders have any play, they have air in them and you need to purge it by moving the bucket through it's full range of motion.
