No Eyed Deer you certainly gave me some more to think about. Changing my driveway’s path, so it crosses perpendicular to creek/ water isn’t an option right now. My property is on the east side of the creek, the county road is on the west side of the creek & all I have is a 30’ easement. Neither...

UPDATE on DIY bridge (long post)

Yes Sir, I have my eye open for some but so far no luck. Any idea how tall they would need to be to carry the weight of, say a log truck and how close they would need to be? Like 2’OC?

So, I talked with a guy today, who does excavation, and he’s been building bridges (over creeks) with ‘retired’ flatbed trailers. The flatbeds are usually 48’ to 53’ long. In many cases he welds two trailer abreast so the crossing is 16’ wide. They also install buttress blocks, rip rap rock &...

“If the terrain allows it, build relief dips on both sides of the bridge.” This sounds like a good idea. Certainly something to look into. Thanks.

    1. Yes, primary residence. 2. Days / year when it’s not possible varies. There are probably a total of only 4-6 days where we can’t cross it in a 4WD F250. When that happens it’s usually just a day at a time, two at most. There’s probably 6-8 WEEKS a year that we can’t get the cars out. That’s...

Yes. I can take out the doglegs so the water doesn’t run down the driveway but it will be at a slight angle.

Your are right airbiscuit. From the east bank of the creek to the west, on my driveway the ground only drops 25” at its lowest point.

I haven’t been able to do much maintenance of the creek over the last 20 years. Partly because it is someone else’s property & I have a 30’ wide easement from the county road to where my property begins just east of the creek. We could park our cars/trucks close to the county road and wade the...

It might end up that we go that route. There are several concrete slabs/low water crossings upstream and downstream that have been there quite awhile. I think just dredging out a lot of the gravel (at my driveway & below) and straightening out the creek will help tremendously.

Don’t have access to the computer right now but I used my phone and took some screenshots. On this photo the yellow arrow shows points to the driveway. The blue arrows show the creek bed. You can see how the creek widens between the green and red arrows. That wide area in my drive is about 100...

Yes, same direction, different times of the year. T at the end of the drive is county road. Last year my wife’s Toyota sat on the far side of the creek because of flooding, for over two months. Nice or something got in it a chew a bunch of wires. After a bad flood we can usually cross it after...

T That was a real photo I posted. Here’s another from today. You can see the water is much lower now.
