The Life of a Custom Mowing contractor

If you go too low, you’ll damage your sidewalls. 20 up front and you’ll be bouncing like a basketball. Are they radial tires? Try backing off a pound or 2 for a while. I do super heavy loader work ~15lbs no issues, but each tire and tractor will react differently

    I've been had! Well,........ manipulated!

We have that in “coastal Pennsylvania”.

Oh yeah. My bale spear and frame pushed that branch aside like a toothpick. I used to always take off the bale spear and put the grapple on when I switched from hay to mowing, but sometimes I just don’t feel like it. I need to get back to doing that.

    5050E front weights necessary?

Prolly depends on the hitch weight. If hitch weight is high, you’ll need front weights for proper steering. If hitch weight is light, rear wheel weights might be needed to improve traction on a 4x2. I’m assuming the disc mower is 3 point mounted? That would be pure hitch weight. You’ll need...

I don’t keep real good track of that, but I’d guess mid teens. Like 15 ish. You can run your tires quite a bit lower than the manufacturer says. If you run their tire pressure, you’ll probably get youself hemorrhoids or bite your tongue off. lol

12 States to ban diesel vehicles

Are you frickin kidding me?!?! 🤣 Ummm, do you think tools were a bit less capable then? Like railroads in 1867 were built by men with picks & shovels. Today’s earthmoving equipment, trucks, excavators, etc. is 100 times faster! Come on! LOL That was the biggest boondoggle in California’s...

    Hay forks

With that few bales being handled, I’d be looking on FBM for a used bale spear. I like 2-prong versions better than one prong with the 2 auxiliary prongs. They are more useful for other tasks. Another thought is if you are also considering pallet forks, they can be used for round bales. I...

12 States to ban diesel vehicles

Many forget that emissions regs go back to 2004.5 when the EPA regs mandated cooled EGR’s in larger diesel engines. They are a big headache when they go bad, too. Ask me how I know. But if DEF goes away, with all the tanks, heaters, plumbing and the fluid itself, that would be a big step towards...

Back on it again today. (2) smaller HOA’s this time. One is far from home base (about 8 miles). Looks like we got us a phragmites invasion. I brought the blower and the grease gun kit with me. You can see both next to the center gearbox drive line covers. On to the next property. This...

Here’s the newer plastic pull cap on Lucas Green. They suck.

12 States to ban diesel vehicles

Exactly. I say let them make a trial run for 1 year and see how it goes without any diesel powered trucks or equipment. They’ll be starving and fighting in the streets. I will admit that natural gas powered trucks are making inroads. Many trucks out west are LNG powered. It’s plentiful and...

    Making gas cans great again

I think you’ll find the next few years may show some changes in the typical bureaucrat/faculty lounge thinking we have seen for many years.

The Life of a Custom Mowing contractor

Most is, but my biggest parcels are privately held. My biggest customer is a super wealthy DuPont family member with 350 acres. The smaller pieces are my HOA customers. It all depends on what the HOA Land manager is like. Most of them I get along with fine. Some are irritating. Some think...

Thanks. It takes extra effort to stay on top of the blade sharpening and be willing to drive slow enough for a nice cut quality. I know what you mean, but no not too much. I find the Deere rotary mowers do a beautiful cutting job. I highly recommend them.
