Planning on dropping Health Insurance. Change my mind.

Smartest thing you ever did. $2200 a year is literally nothing. If you're bitching about $200 a mo then one little visit to the hospital will ruin you. Imagine being self-employed and having to foot the whole bill like I did my whole life. Keep paying and stop whining.

Harbor Freight Tools that don't suck

I just got back from HF, went to buy a new set of Metric sockets and a Crescent Wrench for my new tractor. I think their basic tools are solid and a good deal......

    B2601hsd for small horse farm?

I ended up getting a Kioti 2610 due to it's lifting capacity (1800 lbs). It's also heavy for it's class, and cheaper........maybe take a look at one? Found this video on YT:

Do I need a general contractor to build a house?

I knew that this group was pretty tractor savvy, but actually didn't realize that the TBN group was so skilled in homebuilding..... I can only speak from my experience and it has been with 'wanna-be's' who think building a house is easy. I have no problem with the push back, I was just stating...

    Rental to Owner Finance?

I would either a) leave this alone, or b) all of you go talk to a RE attorney. You are setting yourself up for a lot of nightmares and you will end up being the bad guy even if they default due to their own negligence. Getting an Attorney involved will put everything in legal terms that are...

Do you take it to the dealer for maintenance or do it yourself.

My new tractor will come up on 50 hours in a month or so.....I'm going to do it myself. Used to work on cars back when you could.....I'm fairly handy (more as a builder), but I figger I can get 'er done....

Questions about building a gateway entry arch thing

Plant 'em deep. Check the span tables, but to span 12 feet, you'd roughly want a 12 inch thick pole or beam. I would set them in concrete if it were me. Use tar for the underground portion of the wood pole...

    Don't be this guy

As a home builder and remodeler, I used to keep everything. Windows. doors, anchors, nuts/bolts, flashing, everything. Then I moved and everything went in the dumpster or on the street for neighbors. No more hoarding, everything goes bye bye.......

Would you buy a 30 year old truck with 51 miles on it?

I would be tempted but I like old trucks so not the best advisor :) I just bought a '03 Chevy 2500 with 130k miles. Got it for $11k. Been replacing little stuff like windshield washer pump, rear door handles (extended cab), AC condenser pump, Etc. Engine and Tranny were good and that's what I...

Do I need a general contractor to build a house?

As you said, it can be done.....but it is exceedingly rare for a basic homeowner to pull off a custom build, or even a simple one, with no experience. Now if a person has some background in construction, then that is a totally different matter.... And yes, large corporate builders are worse...

Do I need a general contractor to build a house?

That's a nice build, jk96. But it is the exception to the rule, not the norm. I have been building for 4 decades and have seen enough to know that an inexperienced homeowner has very little chance of getting it right. And Root Cause - you may not save any money at all..... and you will probably...

I have owned my last 2 wheel drive pickup

No reason to ever own a truck that's not 4WD. Price difference is not that much anymore, nor is gas mileage. You get stuck once and it's worth it....Plus you lose the ability to ever go to the really cool places where normal people can't get to....

Do I need a general contractor to build a house?

As a longtime GC, I would say absolutely you 'can' run a project as an Owner/Builder. The hardest part as mentioned is getting and running the subs. But it depends on the level of quality you desire as well. There is no way you can achieve the level of quality that a GC with years of experience...

    New tractor purchase

Congrats! I just received my 2610 a week ago and have been sleeping in it ever since..... I got the FEL, Operator Canopy and Box Scraper. Will pick up a rotary cutter used when I see one (my neighbor got a used one from a rental place for $150). So far, other than basic property maintenance...

Advice on building a tractor shed?

Well now I am looking at going with a steel carport thanks to you guys.....and my wife agrees. Jethro B - where did you find that 18 x 21'...?
