Planning on dropping Health Insurance. Change my mind.

Smartest thing you ever did. $2200 a year is literally nothing. If you're bitching about $200 a mo then one little visit to the hospital will ruin you. Imagine being self-employed and having to foot the whole bill like I did my whole life. Keep paying and stop whining.

Do I need a general contractor to build a house?

I knew that this group was pretty tractor savvy, but actually didn't realize that the TBN group was so skilled in homebuilding..... I can only speak from my experience and it has been with 'wanna-be's' who think building a house is easy. I have no problem with the push back, I was just stating...

    Rental to Owner Finance?

I would either a) leave this alone, or b) all of you go talk to a RE attorney. You are setting yourself up for a lot of nightmares and you will end up being the bad guy even if they default due to their own negligence. Getting an Attorney involved will put everything in legal terms that are...

Questions about building a gateway entry arch thing

Do I need a general contractor to build a house?

As you said, it can be done.....but it is exceedingly rare for a basic homeowner to pull off a custom build, or even a simple one, with no experience. Now if a person has some background in construction, then that is a totally different matter.... And yes, large corporate builders are worse...

Do I need a general contractor to build a house?

That's a nice build, jk96. But it is the exception to the rule, not the norm. And Root Cause - you may not save any money at all..... and you will probably...

Do I need a general contractor to build a house?

As a longtime GC, I would say absolutely you 'can' run a project as an Owner/Builder. The hardest part as mentioned is getting and running the subs.
