Well, it's official: as of this morning, all snow --all piles-- are now gone. Removed blower, put on FEL to move a large branch that fell down next to my BH last winter, moved my pile of rocks to rebuild my summer cooking fireplace, then "aerated" parts of the lawn with my spiked chains.
Grass...
Still a few piles here & there up on the hill in Etna (NH), but disappearing fast at this point. The local independent weather guy my daughter follows has us firmly in the "NOT YET" category for removing snow plow stuff. Guess it won't hurt to leave the blower on for a bit....
So about 10" now; wind has finally died down and temps are rising (currently 30+). Hit driveway with the blower -- pretty wet, heavy stuff, but it handled it. As it's still coming down, I'll have to hit it again later, methinks....
OK, just now up -- slept in, no school for grandkid, daughter can work from home, and took my first look outside. Not all that much snow, but it started as a freezing rain, so crusty on the bottom. Maybe 5" or a bit more --so far-- so that's not too bad... but it's supposed to continue snowing...
So here we go again... another "complex" storm with snow beginning Wed morning and continuing until Friday morning -- a lot like the last one, but one day (of the week) sooner. Weather people are still refining forecasts, but the expected snow is beginning to get up there -- now up from an...
Years ago.... back in the late 60s... I had a Swedish girlfriend. She impressed upon me the weather we have here -- she was very surprised at how we can have a big snowstorm (this was back in the 60s, remember?) and then the next day the sun's out! Having a west-coast maritime climate, Sweden is...
So I guess it's all over now.... It never --or only occasionally-- snowed heavily here, but it did snow continuously -- from around midnight Friday until around 10PM Saturday. Looks like we got around 19-20" here. Lots of wind, some places the snow was 24-25", some places "only" 15"....
It...
Getting ready to fire up the blower... we got "snow squalled" yesterday evening-- about 3" very quickly, visibility down to about 35 yards. Came up quite suddenly, quite a few accidents on roads in the area.
And then.... the storm headed here late Friday night and all day Saturday... looks to...
Think I'm about the same -- two fill-ups of my 5-gallon can.
Today the Little Red Beast gets to help pull an 80-gallon electric water heater out of my basement...been in there for almost 21 years, beginning to leak. (Original one lasted only 17 years....)
So we got what amounted to one of the strongest storms this year... which ain't sayin' much, but we did get over 8" of wet, heavy stuff. The Little Red Beast did fine with it; now we're dealing with off & on snow showers, the nuisance type...
Our dirt road is pretty much a disaster at this...
I'm also in the "if it ain't broke..." camp. I've had to replace three or four so far on my 2007 GC tractor. I've always just gone to a local hydraulic repair shop and have had new ones made up. They're generally more robust looking than the OEM hoses....
....Absolutely nothing. This must be the least I've ever used my 2310 & snowblower since I bought it in Feb of 2008. Bet I haven't put more than 3 hours on it all winter! Snow is rapidly disappearing here - -maybe 3" on virgin ground now, less in the trees. Guessing it'll all be gone in two more...
Well, I guess I spoke too soon! Another "shower" came by and quickly dropped another 2"+. Folks are saying the roads are messy; apparently a roll-over on Rte 4 not far from here....
