Major problem? No, just bad fuel

Just dewater and filter it, then mix it in with the fresh diesel a gallon at a time.

Low hour LX4500: A bad idea?

I have about 700 hours on my lx4500, I bought mine new in the summer of 2012. It is a tier III/interim tier IV engine which is desirable if you don't like DEF or regen. This model came out just before those inconveniences became common. Generally I really like the tractor and the 4tnv88...

Can you ID these 1 cylinder diesel generators? (Hammond Homestead, Alaska)

Pictured is former Alaska First Lady Bella Hammond checking the oil on one of the generators at their cabin/homestead on Lake Clark, Alaska. This homestead is in the registry of Historic Places. I've been reading Dick Proenneke's journals, and in 1978, then governor Jay Hammond picked him up...

    Here comes Beryl

.5 gal/hr for a 20KW diesel generator means it only has a 25%-ish load on it. 2 gal/hr is more realistic if you need that much capacity.

    YT359 VS YT347 hydro?

It's probably the same hydraulic pump, but the YT359 is a slower RPM engine because of its longer piston stroke. The YT347 has an almost square engine bore/stroke ratio so it operates at higher rpm. There is a similar hydraulic flow difference in the LX series.

Do you have a thermal expansion tank on your water heater?

I have a 23-year-old system with a well, Burnham/Beckett oil fired boiler, and a detached hot water tank. Both the boiler and hot water tank have expansion tanks and when they go bad the safety relief valves release water during a heating cycle. So, I definitely see pressure problems without...

Why should I NOT buy a new LX 4500 or LX 4900?

I have the LX4500 with a 72-inch King Kutter and it's fine, it just bogs down in really tall field grass (as high as the operator) but you take it slow it'll munch through it. The HST transmission is great for navigating bumps and knolls, the fields I mow are not smooth. You can control your...

Looking for my grandfather's 1954 Allis Chalmers CA (Maine)

Thanks for the tip! I'll start cross posting on other Allis Chalmers and antique tractor groups, maybe I'll get a nibble somewhere. :)

Looking for my grandfather's 1954 Allis Chalmers CA (Maine)

This is a long shot, but I just found a tax receipt with the Model, year, and serial numbers. :) The tractor was originally in Scarborough, ME and sold in the 1980s. My grandfather was the original owner. 1954 Allis Chalmers CA Engine#: CE186670PA Serial#: CA31433 Type: Tricycle Would be...

Can a diesel engine run on gas. .

The U.S. Military used multifuel diesel compression engines in their 2.5 tons and 5 tons trucks from the 1960s-80s. Namely the LDS-427, LD-465, LDT-465, and LDS-465 build by Continental, White, and Hercules Engine Companies. Bear in mind gas was leaded at that time, which helped with the...

    Lessons from this year's snowmageddon

I advise against using a 0W-30 oil designed for passenger car DPF engines. Your recommended oil is 10W-30, Specifications ACEA E6, E9, API CK-4, CJ-4, CI-4 Plus, SN The Napa oil filter # should be 1334. Zerex G-05 is a good coolant to use.

    Westendorf Fixed V Snow Plow

You would use half of the V blade to windrow. My straight blade is hydraulic, in heavy wet snow at an angle the front end can get pushed to a side and the blade will sometimes fully trip. I think this V-blade would overcome those issues. Note, I don't see this replacing my straight blade, its...

    Westendorf Fixed V Snow Plow

Is anybody running Westendorf V snow plows? I love the look of a fixed V-snow plow. I'm thinking one would come in handy for our heavy wet snows when snow blowing or pushing with a straight blade is no fun. I like the cutting blade on the front to break up a crust and deflect it to the side...

How to blade gravel without 3-point float?

I don't have draft control but yesterday re-worked 300 yards of driveway that hadn't been graded in several years. The aggregate is 3/4" crushed concrete asphalt shingle mix. First I used the aggressive side of a rear blade to angle the edges of the drive back towards center. This put back...

Hurricane Warning Issued for NE Coast

I'm about 150 miles past the landfall point, but only 5 miles from the coast, yeah, predicted to get 2 inches of tropical rain and 30mph winds with gusts of 40mph. No panic, but I did climb up 25 feet on a ladder yesterday to cover an old barn window that had fallen out with acrylic sheet and...
