Something I don't understand about applications of below 40hp tractors

I have a Kubota B5200 that's going on 40 years old. 13 HP 3 cylinder diesel. It pulls box and scrape blades for gravel road/driveway work including a little snowplow every few years, and it powers my PTO splitter and chipper. And yeah, it cuts grass too, especially thick roadside junk. If I...

Asking help with DR Chipper disassembly

Got it. The "stuck" piece is not a shaft collar at all. It is the core of the pillow block bearing, and goes all the way through the bearing. I fished an open end wrench through the inspection port and onto the heads of the bolts holding the pillow block in place, got the nuts off, and got...

Asking help with DR Chipper disassembly

I never heard of that kind of hardware before. But no, it's not a concentric lock. Thanks for the new term, though.

Asking help with DR Chipper disassembly

Good idea. The Owner's Manual posted online tells how to sharpen the blade but does not go much deeper. The exploded diagram is not detailed enough for this problem. My part is #6. It doesn't really show the thickness of the piece or how many setscrews it has. I think I'm asking more...

Asking help with DR Chipper disassembly

I have a second hand DR PTO chipper. Can't find the nameplate, but it looks like an older version of their 475, with a small hopper and low eject port. It broke last weekend on a sweetgum trunk just under the max size. Now it rattles like it's coming apart when I feed wood. In the garage I...

Sick of Paying Tractor Part Prices.... Make Your Own....(3D Printed)

@LittleBill21, What filament did you use for the caps in the OP (5 pages ago!)? They look nice and flexible. My PLA prints are all brittle. My JGAurora A5s printer mostly makes brackets and shells for electronics, with PLA, so high strength is not important to me. If holes need to be precise...

My First trans/hydraulic oil change (B5200)

Mike, TractorGuy, IH3444: Good advice. This is what came out. It looks more brown than it did the first day. > If it also goes into your transmission, I would get a better quality fluid if you can afford it. In this tractor, the fluid is both transmission and hydraulic fluid. Tractor...

My First trans/hydraulic oil change (B5200)

My Kubota B5200 is a 1984 but I bought it last year. I just changed the transmission/hydraulic fluid for the first time. Before the change, the level on the stick was good but the oil was white. When I ran the 3-point all the way up I got an unpleasant sound. It was hard to describe...

How is Kubota B5200 steering spindle constructed?

I was lucky enough to find a new spindle on ebay, which fit. It took a wheel puller to get the bearings off the old taper. I used a 3 ton arbor press to set the bearings on the new spindle's tapered axle, but I think you can do it by threading the castle nut too. The original question is...

How is Kubota B5200 steering spindle constructed?

I think the parts list drawing is oversimplified. Photo shows that there is a block at the bottom of the kingpin. I think the pin must be secured into that. There don't seem to be any bolts, so it must be pressed or swaged. Probably not splined, unless the splines have stripped. I'm...

How is Kubota B5200 steering spindle constructed?

This is from last year's article, linked in my OP. It's the left side. This year I'm working on the right side, but the twist is the same:

How is Kubota B5200 steering spindle constructed?

My B5200 2WD tractor has had big toe-out since the folks here helped me fix a snapped left knuckle (aka "steering arm") last year: https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/parts-repairs/381143-cant-get-steering-knuckle-off.html I have extended the tierod as far as it will go and have just been...

    differential noise

I'm in the middle of a brake job on my Kubota B5200. The differential is making a rubbing sound, and I don't know whether to dig into that part of the machine, or put the brake back together and hope for the best. Last time I ran the tractor, I got some squeaking that sounded like other times...

Can't get steering knuckle off Kubota B5200

Today I used a grinder to "untwist" the keyway, making one side more or less vertical. Also rounded off the kingpin top so the new knuckle would slip on. Hammered it all together including a new tool steel key and took it for a spin. Thanks for all your help!

Can't get steering knuckle off Kubota B5200

So things got messy. I ended up grinding through the knuckle and breaking it off in pieces. When I finally got to the spindle (aka 66681-56210 King Pin), I found it twisted pretty badly, with no key. Does it sound reasonable that a previous owner lost the key and welded the top as a...
