Need to fit a new seal kit to a leaking power steering ram on my MF 253. A bit confused by the directions from the factory manual that the nut should be locked onto the shaft by centre punching the thread (see illustration)as this would surely cause problems the next time it needs to be...
Hi, Ive got a MF 253 tractor (perkins 3 cyl diesel) which needs a top up of transmission/hydraulic oil mainly due to a leaking seal at the PTO shaft.
I started pouring from my drum of Caltex Agri MP oil as recommended by MF but noticed a few large globules in the mix so I stopped immediately...
My service manual says to grease the steering column and clutch pedal bearing, trouble is I cant find any nipples on either of these?
All the other greasable points Ive located no probs. The tractor has power steering if that makes a difference.
I have the factory service manual but...
what part doesnt look original? the handle or the whole assembly?? Here's a screen cap from the manual. Not sure if these are to scale but I'll measure relative dimensions in the morning and see if it aligns.
I'm the 2nd owner of the tractor it came off a flatland golf course and seems to be...
Ive discovered a strange problem with my recently acquired MF253 which I cant work out. Basically the handle for the levelling box on the rear hitch cant be used as it fouls on either the mudguard or the ROPS frame. It all looks original eg proper guards and genuine MF ROPS but for some bizzare...
I notice MF recommend using ATF fluid eg dexron 11 in the PS system for the 200 series and presumably 135s etc as they use the same pump.
Ive been topping up my 253 with generic power steering fluid. Is this a problem, should I flush and refill with ATF?
The system leaks at one of the rams...
Is there a definitive source for changes to specifications within the same model of MF tractors over time? Eg different parts for different serial numbers, revised remove and repair procedures?
I'm looking for a manual for my 253 and I can get a cheap 2nd hand one for models from 1986 but mine...

As summer heats up down under I thought it was time to get a working temp gauge on my MF 253 and selected what was described as the equivalent part from an online seller.
After finally extracting the original gauge (took way longer than expected) I'm not sure how the new one should be wired up...
Changed the fuel filter on the 253 the other week and havent had it going since! (did the water pump at the same time but thats another story) If you look at the image Ive bled it at all the points shown at the filter and the pump but have had problems getting a spanner onto the injector nuts...
Looking at a MF 253 which ticks all the boxes except for the high hours 7k. AFAIK it has never had the head off, uses no oil and blows no smoke under load.
It has only done light duty at a golf club since new (has turf tires on).
Any thoughts on how long these engines can go with decent...
