New Woods rotary cutter - can't slide the plastic PTO guard out of the way

That may work for some. But I have 3 critical grease fittings that have to be greased daily, and I use my cutter daily for months at a time. There's NO WAY I'm unhooking that 100lb drive line daily. One thing to understand about rotating drive lines and u-joints is that they are as dangerous...

New Woods rotary cutter - can't slide the plastic PTO guard out of the way

I can't say that I don't know how to deal with those lawyer induced guards... ;) This is my new Woods 15.72 a couple months ago. I just cut that crap off. My tractor has a pivoting steel guard over the PTO shaft anyway, so no loss of safety by cutting that plastic off. I did keep the shaft...

    Clogged Radiators Hack

Some have screens and some don't. This particular tractor is a Powerstar120, and it's only about a year and half old. No screens. My other tractor, the same year model is a Powerstar75, and it has screens. Same basic engine, but different radiator system. The fins are much bigger in my bigger...

    Clogged Radiators Hack

Now and then I find myself away from my work pickup and air compressor, and need to clean the radiators when they get clogged, and things stop cooling, and start running hot... I carry a bench brush with pretty stiff bristles in each tractor. It sweeps out the cab, and if needed, clears out...

    Got my Carry All today.

Yeah, I've seen lots of welding critique all over the place. One thing that I seem to notice is that the ones doing all the criticizing are not long out of welding school. You could throw them onto a pipeline or oilfield fabrication job, and they'd be run off in short order. I just do ranch or...

Not to knock your welding, by any means, as I'm not the best welder in the world... But there's really no need to make the long welds the entire length. Just 3-4 3 inch long welds that are strong enough to burn the brace material and frame together in a slower, beefier weld. Watch the metal as...

    Bush hog Q

The blades are pretty interchangeable between cutters in lots of cases. I would take the old blades off, and then physically compare them to the new ones, if possible. You have to check the length, width, and the bolt hole, and make sure they are precisely the same. Some blades are high lift...

It'll make it stronger. But I do think those triangular pieces need to be of thicker metal, if you can.

    Got my Carry All today.

I think it depends on how much the generator pulls torque-wise on the PTO, and the tractor horsepower. My generator is a 30kw, and I run it with a 75hp tractor. Not run it for a full 24 hour period non stop, but based on what I've tested it, it'll burn somewhere around 20 gallons in a 24 hour...

I used one of those to mount my PTO generator on. Welded on a roof to keep the rain off the generator itself, and legs to set it on the ground so that the PTO shaft stays level, and hydraulic bleed off on the 3pt won't affect driveline on long running times.

PTO operating while off the tractor

That's exactly how the kill override button works on my Powerstar tractors. And from what I understand, it doesn't keep running indefinitely, as it has a time limit. Not tested the time limit, but that's what I was told.

Woods Rotary Bush Hog Gear Box

May be that it was filled with corn head 00wt grease. That's what I use when I can on my gear boxes, (and have quite a few gear boxes). As a side note, I'm glad you found your gear box, as it's quite expensive to buy a new, high quality cutter... just paid $30k for one, so I know. ;) Be sure...

    Alternate Hydraulic Oil and Filter

I'd use what they recommend in that tractor after you get the old oil replaced and cleaned out well. May not be much difference, but there "can" be. Lubricants and fluids have their own spectrum of stuff you couldn't fit into a volume of encyclopedias. Some have detergents, some have anti...

Why Can't Someone Make a Good 12' Batwing Cutter?

Good post, Eddie! I agree! Right now the 10-12 foot cutters are more designed for lower horsepower tractors in the 45-50hp range. They are easier to get spinning from a start-up, and not HD at all. I have my 12' Viper on the back of my 75hp tractor, and will cheer the day they make a HD...

Why Can't Someone Make a Good 12' Batwing Cutter?

That's kinda what I do. But in the past couple of years, I've leased some good hay fields. I have them for my own use with cattle, and to sell what hay is left over. I do all the work on them myself, except the cutting and baling. I have a great guy that comes and bales when I have a field...
