Went to one of my buddy's yesterday to pickup a few parts and in his driveway he has a wide frontend row crop. He doesn't know the motor condition or the condition of the rest of the tractor, he says it has the Sherman step up/step down trans in it. So what's the thing worth?

My brother is looking at a later '60s 4cyl. diesel 2000, overall it's in pretty good condition, good tires, swinging drawbar. Haven't heard it run and the man wants 1500.00 for it, I think we can get it for a 1000.00. Any thoughts?
