I've quit planting peas, I've eaten so many peas in my life I can't even hardly chew them anymore I feel like they grow in my mouth. Focusing on green beans and butter beans for a while.
I do love green beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers and sweet corn, but peas are the backbone of my garden. Not a big fan of shelling them, but there is still nothing better than a pot of fresh peas to me.
My great uncle always said when a bad storm came up, he would go lay in the pea patch. It had saved his life so many times, he felt safer there than anywhere else. Of course I don't depend on them for food, but peas have been a big part of my life as long as I can remember. We truck farmed for years, and peas was our cash crop.
