Howdy all:

I have a co-worker who is looking to sell his 1984 Ford 2910 that comes with a 6' rotary cutter.

I don't know if it's allowed here, but can I post some pictures of it, give details, and have you all assist in a ballpark value?

If not allowed, let me know and I will delete. Not trying to sell on here, just trying to get an estimated value of what you all think it is worth?

As for me, I have no clue!

Thanks in advance....

Darren

He probably has access to the same internet we do, so have him scavenge farm auction sites for average prices sold etc.

Without pictures and descriptive condition, it's impossible to evaluate a tractor. It's like, "how many fingers am I holding up?".

I don't think your query here is a problem. But just so you know, TBN has a Classified section. Look at the banner at the top of the page.

I have a 1986 Ford 3910 that I wouldn't sell for $12k much less throw in a cutter. You have to look at what you're competing against in the regional market. Prices have gone crazy in the last few years. And not just tractors.

It’s sadly worth nothing. Fortunately I will relieve him of his burden if you’ll kindly point me in the tractors direction 😁

In all seriousness, a lot of it is condition. I’d take an original, high hour tractor that’s maintained and in good shape over a low hour tractor that’s got mismatched tires, smashed up sheet metal and a lot of rust.

Dual power is usually worth more than those without. Dunno squat about the syncro transmissions these have but most folks don’t shy away from the 8 speed un synchronized. They’re a reliable and sturdy box, should have the same interals as a 3000/3600.

LCGs are worth less usually.

Pictures would help certainly.

With what I know as of now, I’d say for both in my area, 12500 would get you an immaculate pair, and 3,000 for a beat up TLC special, “ran when parked 10 years ago.”

Here are the pictures he provided to me. I work with him daily, and he's a very nice guy. I have not seen the tractor, but what he told me is this...

"I bought the tractor and rotary cutter three years go to mow this spot of my property. There is nothing wrong with the tractor at all. Runs perfectly."

He told me he paid $10k for it three years ago... he said the common "I don't want to sell it, but I bought a zero turn mower and that's what I'm using now."

It looks clean, but I don't know anything about these tractors.

That is in excellent shape I’d say. Looks to be looked after well.

If I were a buyer, I’d check to make sure all the grease points had no excessive wear and had clean grease in them. As long as that is present and the fluids all look clean, I’d say I’d offer 10 for both, on the spot type offer. If I were him I’d list at 11,500 and I’d expect it would not sit idle.

Stay away from equipment auctions, you won’t get squat there.

I think he's only asking $8k for both... again, not my tractor and I humbly appreciate your input. I will pass it along to him. I'm going over to his house this weekend, and will inspect it myself. I know that he has kept the oil changed regularly, and if he says it runs perfectly, I believe him.

I will pass on your guidance to him. I appreciate your input greatly!

From the pictures, I think if he would give it a decent pressure wash, cleaning, it would shine up nicely!

A round of hand polish makes a heckuva difference on old iron. Big thing is if there’s moisture in the transmission oil. That can happen on these fords. Transmissions don’t really get that warm and the oil turns to milk.

8k would be pretty low for that setup.

In my area you’d get 2 grand for that brush hog alone.

I would think that he could get $10,000 for the tractor and mower with no problem. It looks to be in excellent shape. The 3000 & 5000 series tractors were the best that Ford made.

If he is asking 8K for it, snap it up quickly before someone else hears about it and it is gone. Looks to be in very good shape, and buying from someone you know and trust is a big bonus for me when I am buying stuff. Grab it quik for his 8K asking price!
