F450 wide front axle

I used to have one of these and loved the tighter turning radius of the wide front axle. It made backing trailers into tight areas much much easier in addition to parking lots and u turns.

Now I have a ram2500 and a f350 drw and the steering radius on both of those is like a stinky turd.

Do other manufacturers offer a wide front axle or do I have to get another f450?

I was in the same boat, had F350 CC LB and now Ram 3500 CC LB. Towing and turning with a gooseneck takes miles and miles. Test drove an F450 and it was a dream with the tight turning radius and really wanted one, but circumstances placed me into the Ram. AFAIK only Ford offers this in the F450, after searching for options and asking both Ram and GM.

Ford’s F450 is pretty much the only option for that wide front axle with a tight turning radius. Ram and GM don’t offer it, so if that’s a must-have for you, you’ll probably need to go back to an F450.

If you are looking for a f450 keep in mind that the f550 also offers the wide front axle. I have an f550 with 165" width with 4x4. Theoretically it can turn inside of my f250 with 158"wb extended cab 8ft bed. Ford started these with the 2005 models, I was amazed how much tighter it turned than my prior 99 f550.

That’s one thing I liked about my F-550 versus my Ram 5500.
The 550 turned noticeably tighter.
Other than that, I’m a real happy Ram 5500 owner.

It’s not a fair comparison because Dads wheelbase is longer but my 3500 ram will turn sharper than Dads 550. I can circle the ram in my trailer parking area and the 550 will circle in the same spot but it’s starting to run off the edge to do the same thing. If the wheelbases were equal I’m sure the 550 would turn sharper.
