Massey Ferguson 1835M
So I buy a new Massey Ferguson you tell me I have to replace all the hydraulic fluids in all my accessories my plows my discs and everything else that hook directly to the tractor. Because it uses powertrain 827xl semi synthetic fluid, and my disc and plow from 1940 used conventional oil I can't hook one to the other and tie it into the tractor I call hoo ha. What are your thoughts about cross-contamination and how will it affect the fluid.

I probably wouldn’t worry about it. You could change the fluid in your tractor a little early if it’s a concern.

Worry is interest paid on trouble you do not have.

Heck I am running what I think is DEXRON II in my log splitter and it may be 30 years old...... Synthetic and dino oil seem to blend ok, personally I would not worry about it....Permatrans 821XL is a 10W30 semi-synthetic blend meaning its part synthetics part dino.....

It's all dead dinos to begin with

just ask ai...

Synthetic oil is created through a process of chemically modifying or building new molecules, unlike conventional oil, which is refined from crude oil. Synthetic oils can start with petroleum products that have been altered, or they can be derived from other raw materials, Hogan & Sons says. The exact methods used by manufacturers are closely guarded, but the process involves refining crude oil to create a base oil, followed by the addition of additives to improve performance.

Mix 'em. We have mixed all sorts of fluids over the years in various equipment and attachments over the years in a rental fleet with no issues, except when customers confuse the hydraulic tank for the fuel tank. Then we had problems.

The only time I worry about hydraulic oil cross contamination is when I rent an implement. Who knows what the last guy used for oil in his tractor.

Even then, it becomes a matter of degree. Most hydraulically operated implements don't contain that much oil compared to the 15 gallons or so in the tractor.

I agree with those who say to change the filter more frequently as a precaution.
