Starlink

Spectrum is down again for me and has been for several hours now. So far, fiber is not as reliable as Starlink. Go figure. 😂
FWIW: Many routers have failover capabilities to pick up the internet service on a secondary system (WAN1 vs WAN2). Some can be set up to keep both on and the load shared between the two so that if one drops, there is almost no impact.

All the best, Peter

Not sure if Starlink is routing traffic in space yet or it just goes back to the ground after the first hop. I think those satellites had to wait for Starship though. At any rate the speed of light in a vacuum 300,000 kilometers per second but only 200,000 km/s in glass (fiber optic cable). So in theory routing over lasers between satellites could be faster.
Starlink IS already using satellite to satellite communications to maximize thruput.

Thats the only worry i have about going fiber. Some dumbell digging it up planting a tree or fence post.

Our fiber to the house is about 13, maybe 15 years old and it's quite dependable but I noticed several times during the day it kicks in and out but sometimes it's just a flash. When the Tesla/ starlink phone service is available, I might take a look at that. Verizon is the best choice around here because is the least holey internet service.
