good morning all
going to be a hot day here too, in the 90's
no plans for today, though yesterday did not go well.
wasted most of afternoon trying to find a bell washer so service station could install my rear shocks.
Allegedly mounting kit came with shock, but only the nut. Looked up shock on five onlines and all show just the nut
enclosed. Apparently the mount at one end is not a hole but a small square, so I need a washer to cover it.
One parts place said send it back, missing parts. So...with no other choice got a return authorization to send back, but not
their fault, their ad only showed the nut. I found a KYB kit online and ordered it to come in today, has several washers I think will work.
So hopefully I can mount what was already sent to me, but if not, have to send back.
Considering the enormous cost savings of not having the dealer do this, I'll put up with some of this nuisance. This is a bell fender washer maybe inch and half wide. I asked parts guy don't you have a big drawer of these? Nope. Only in kits. I could buy a plain one and have Popgadget drill the hole in it. I wonder if TSC has a drawer of them?
first I'll see if the oem washer works, though it wasn't designed for this shock. These are conventional KYB shocks going on a Toyota, should not be difficult, but the mechanic I'm dealing with leaves a lot to be desired. His boss, the owner, I've known since birth, so I know the owner is looking over this carefully, and is both embarrassed and frustrated this is going poorly. He admitted they really only liked installing oem parts bought from dealers, because of problems like this. But a good mechanic gets past this...not going to tell him that...I think he already knows that.
Mostly, be careful in triple digit heat
looks like a heat dome day for a lot of folks
hope everyone's a/c works fine
